But Rayo then \u201cmoved the goalposts\u201d, and now want more money \u2014 in fact, they want the full \u20ac25m that\u2019s set as the release clause in Chavarr\u00eda\u2019s contract. They must have seen how BlueCo do business and smelled an easy opportunity to get an extra ten mil.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">Paying that would still be less in the end then simply exercising the release clause (which comes with a massive tax burden that the buyers usually cover), but obviously not great if we were looking to do business at a much lower price point.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">The two teams are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7442340\/2026\/07\/14\/transfer-latest-manchester-united-man-city-arsenal-liverpool-real-madrid-leeds\/?unlocked_article_code=1.xlA.a0Ko.46PtUiaG1Mwz&amp;source=athletic_user_shared_gift_article_copylink&amp;smid=url-share-ta?source=twitteruk\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said to be<\/a> talking still, so this is not over yet, but it sounds like we\u2019re going to have to pay up if we really want Chavarr\u00eda.
