Few artists reigned through the latter part of the 1960s like The Monkees<\/a>. The group, made up of Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork, released their eponymous debut album in 1966, complete with numerous hit singles over the next several years. Among their many hits are these four songs, which are so good that it\u2019s likely that every 60s kid can still sing the songs word for word today.<\/p>\n

The Monkees\u2019 debut single, \u201cLast Train To Clarksville\u201d also became their first No. 1 single. Written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, \u201cLast Train To Clarksville\u201d introduced The Monkees\u2019 unique sound to the world, along with their tight harmonies.<\/p>\n

One of The Monkees\u2019 most notable singles, \u201cI\u2019m A Believer\u201d is on their sophomore album, More Of The Monkees. Also out in 1966, Neil Diamond is the sole writer of the uptempo tune.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m A Believer\u201d says, \u201cI thought love was only true in fairy tales \/ Meant for someone else but not for me \/ Love was out to get me \/ That\u2019s the way it seemed \/ Disappointment haunted all my dreams \/ Then I saw her face, now I\u2019m a believer \/ Not a trace of doubt in my mind \/ I\u2019m in love, I\u2019m a believer \/ I couldn\u2019t leave her if I tried.\u201d<\/p>\n

Diamond actually wrote<\/a> \u201cI\u2019m A Believer\u201d for country artist Eddy Arnold instead. Although it\u2019s one of the group\u2019s biggest singles, Nesmith did not want to record \u201cI\u2019m A Believer\u201d, claiming it wasn\u2019t a hit.<\/p>\n

On The Monkees\u2019 fifth studio album, The Birds, The Bees & The Monkees, is \u201cDaydream Believer\u201d. The 1967 single, written by John Stewart, became a four-week No. 1 hit for The Monkees.<\/p>\n

The song says, \u201cCheer up, Sleepy Jean \/ Oh, what can it mean \/ To a daydream believer \/ And a homecoming queen \/ Cheer up, Sleepy Jean \/ Oh, what can it mean \/ To a daydream believer \/ And a homecoming queen.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 1979, Anne Murray\u2019s version<\/a> of this song became a country and pop hit.<\/p>\n

\u201cPleasant Valley Sunday\u201d<\/p>\n

On Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd., their fourth studio album, is \u201cPleasant Valley Sunday\u201d. Written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin, it did not hit No. 1, although it remains a fan favorite.<\/p>\n

\u201cPleasant Valley Sunday\u201d says, \u201cAnother Pleasant Valley Sunday \/ Charcoal burning everywhere \/ Rows of houses that are all the same \/ And no one seems to care.\u201d<\/p>\n
