The Open Championship tees off in less than 24 hours <\/a>at Royal Birkdale.<\/p>\n

Scottie Scheffler\u2019s quest for a repeat comes on the heels of his first missed cut<\/a> in nearly four years. Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose and a slew of other English players face the pressure of becoming the first UK winner to hoist the claret jug since Nick Faldo\u2019s triumph at Muirfield in 1992. All three of Faldo\u2019s Open wins came in Scotland, though, which means England hasn\u2019t seen a native son lift the jug on home soil since Tony Jacklin in 1969. <\/p>\n

But we\u2019re not here for history, we\u2019re here for the golf betting<\/a>. Let\u2019s breakdown where the odds stand as of Wednesday, July 15.<\/p>\n

As The Open heads to a new-look Royal Birkdale this week, it\u2019s time to rank Scottie Scheffler and the rest of the field for the year\u2019s final major.<\/p>\n

Open Championship winner prediction<\/p>\n

Scheffler has gone from +500 a dozen days ago to +590 over the weekend to his current +680 line. So what does it all mean? The Open hasn\u2019t had a back-to-back winner since Harrington in 2008 \u2014 the longest stretch of the four majors, and Scheffler\u2019s somewhat swelling number is reflective of that as well as the missed cut at the Renaissance Club. Bottom line is we\u2019re passing and waiting for something a little more favorable on the live betting menu, given the world\u2019s No. 1 propensity for slower starts in tournaments this year. <\/p>\n

While Scheffler has gained some value, bettors have flocked toward Fleetwood and Rose. Fleetwood, having grown up in the town of Southport, has drawn considerable action. Rose is one of four players in the field who has played Birkdale on three previous times it hosted in 1998 (which Fleetwood attended as a boy), 2008 and 2017. Both have attracted money for good reason but we\u2019ll hold off on them, too.<\/p>\n

Tyrrell Hatton fits the narrative of Englishmen looking to win the claret jug at home, and yet his number has remained flat near and around his current odds of +3700. That means there\u2019s some form of value on the 34-year-old who was cut at Birkdale almost a decade ago. Perhaps that\u2019s why there\u2019s limited action, despite Hatton\u2019s win in June over Jon Rahm<\/a> at LIV Golf Andalucia and his T-3 finish at Augusta<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Favorite longshot winner<\/p>\n

Granted he hasn\u2019t contended for the winner\u2019s circle since a Sunday implosion in Phoenix <\/a>earlier this year but the number +9600 next to the name Hideki Matsuyama just seems inconsistent. Matsuyama finished T-14 at Birkdale in 2017 and is coming off a T-16 in last year\u2019s Open. If you have a make the cut parlay, by the way \u2014 the 2021 Masters winner is a nice anchor having made all 16 weekends this year.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll also recommend Nicolai Hojgaard as a worthy flier at +8800, and hope we\u2019re not being duped by his amazing driving stats (fourth on the PGA Tour in distance). And one more for the road: Eugenio Chacarra at +14500 is screaming with capital \u201cV\u201d value. Wish he had a better showing at the Scottish Open where he finished T-52 but he\u2019s coming off a pair of DP World Tour wins in the month of June. <\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a look at tee times and groupings for the opening round of the 154th Open Championship.<\/p>\n

2026 Open Championship best bet<\/p>\n

This one is almost too easy: Scottie Scheffler and Chris Gotterup to finish top 20 including ties. Those two parlayed are paying +200. Love the players, love the odds. Hard to build a case against either of them at this point in the year so we won\u2019t. And doubly, we\u2019re not going to stress out about the winner\u2019s circle. We know what these guys are capable of doing on Sunday. The track record speaks for itself.<\/p>\n

For what it\u2019s worth, if you were to add in Collin Morikawa to the above you get a +580 deal. Don\u2019t hate that one either! Depends on how you feel about Morikawa\u2019s chipping prowess due to his roller-coaster ride with health<\/a> this year.<\/p>\n
