It also noted that OnePlus will wind down its operations in India, one of its biggest markets outside China.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OnePlus was started by Pete Lau and Carl Pei in 2013 to make affordable Android phones for tech enthusiasts. Over time, the company expanded the range of offerings and that created global demand for its products. Pei <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/03\/02\/nothing-smartphone-carl-pei\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">left the company in 2020 to start Nothing<\/a>. As the price of the company\u2019s flagship phones increased, OnePlus also ventured into more affordable phones with <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2020\/07\/21\/nord-is-onepluss-sub-500-5g-handset\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">its Nord series<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Analytics firms like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idc.com\/resource-center\/blog\/worldwide-smartphone-market-to-decline-13-9-in-2026-as-memory-crisis-and-us-iran-war-constrain-growth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">IDC<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/counterpointresearch.com\/en\/insights\/2026-smartphone-shipments-to-post-worst-annual-decline-on-record-as-memory-crisis-and-geopolitical-shocks-converge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Counterpoint<\/a> have predicted that smartphone shipments are going to decline by more than 13% in 2026 due to a limited supply of memory chips that\u2019s been described as <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2026\/04\/30\/as-tim-cook-steps-down-apple-hit-record-sales-but-a-chip-shortage-looms\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">RAMageddon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oppo faced a double-digit shipment decline year-over-year for the second quarter of 2026, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/counterpointresearch.com\/en\/insights\/global-smartphone-shipments-q2-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">a report by Counterpoint<\/a>.
