{"id":765525,"date":"2026-07-16T03:43:13","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T03:43:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/765525\/"},"modified":"2026-07-16T03:43:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T03:43:13","slug":"belinda-stewart-architects-to-preserve-frank-lloyd-wright-designed-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/765525\/","title":{"rendered":"Belinda Stewart Architects to preserve Frank Lloyd Wright\u2013designed home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Mississippi Museum of Art (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msmuseumart.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MMA<\/a>) selected <a href=\"https:\/\/belindastewartarchitects.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Belinda Stewart Architects<\/a> to lead a major <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archpaper.com\/tag\/preservation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">preservation<\/a> effort for a home designed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archpaper.com\/tag\/frank-lloyd-wright\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Frank Lloyd Wright<\/a> in Jackson, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archpaper.com\/tag\/mississippi\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mississippi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Wright completed Fountainhead in 1954 for the client J. Willis Hughes, who lived at the home with his family until 1980. Fountainhead was added to the National Register of Historic Places that same year.<\/p>\n<p>Over time the building became known colloquially as Fountainhead because it is believed Fountainhead <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msmuseumart.org\/exhibition\/fountainhead-by-frank-lloyd-wright\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">author Ayn Rand was influenced by Wright\u2019s career<\/a>, and also for the home\u2019s water features.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-419648 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/5-web-or-mls-_DSC7431.jpg\" alt=\"cantilevers and angled corners in Fountainhead\" width=\"1900\" height=\"1268\"  \/>The building is known for its dramatic cantilevers and angled corners. (G. Douglas Adams Photography)<\/p>\n<p>The late architect Robert Parker Adams worked for years restoring the building. But Adams was more than just a steward; he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtor.com\/news\/unique-homes\/after-nearly-50-years-frank-lloyd-wrights-fountainhead-home-changes-hands\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lived in the house for nearly half a century<\/a>. Adams <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtor.com\/news\/unique-homes\/after-nearly-50-years-frank-lloyd-wrights-fountainhead-home-changes-hands\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">listed the house for sale in June 2025<\/a>; he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chancellorfuneralhome.com\/obituaries\/robert-adams\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">passed away that July<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Fountainhead was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archpaper.com\/2025\/11\/frank-lloyd-wright-fountainhead-mississippi-museum-of-art\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">acquired by the Mississippi Museum of Art in November 2025<\/a>. Founder Belinda Steward called Fountainhead a \u201cphenomenal work of art\u201d and a \u201cdistinctly Mississippi story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The acquisition of the Wright-designed home, known today as the Fountainhead, was inspired by the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, and its purchasing of the historic <a href=\"https:\/\/crystalbridges.org\/architecture\/frank-lloyd-wright-bachman-wilson-house\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bachman-Wilson House<\/a>, MMA said in <a href=\"https:\/\/museumpublicity.com\/2026\/07\/15\/mississippi-museum-of-art-announces-belinda-stewart-architects-pa-to-lead-preservation-of-the-museums-frank-lloyd-wright-designed-property\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a statement<\/a>. Crystal Bridges had the Bachman-Wilson House relocated from New Jersey to the expansive museum campus in Northwest Arkansas, to serve as a point-of-interest, permanent exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>Steward affirmed a \u201cdream team\u201d of Mississippi professionals and national consultants with relevant experience will come together to preserve the Wright-designed property in Jackson.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-419649 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/7-web-or-mls-_DSC7433.jpg\" alt=\"terrace and patio\" width=\"1900\" height=\"1268\"  \/>Terraces offer pristine views. Douglas Adams Photography)<\/p>\n<p>In tandem with Fountainhead curator Jennifer Baughn, Belinda Steward Architects prepare a historic structure report that outlines condition assessment, digital modeling of the building, and a prioritized treatment plan.<\/p>\n<p>MMA Laurie Hearin McRee Director Betsy Bradley noted that the preservation project will help forge the institution\u2019s connection with the city of Jackson.<\/p>\n<p>Belinda Steward Architects will oversee structural repairs to the building, landscape evaluation and rehabilitation, and modifications for accessibility and code compliance requisite for the building\u2019s new use as a museum and event venue.<\/p>\n<p>Diagnostic work by the architects on the building structure will begin right away.
