\n\t\u201cJurassic Park<\/a>\u201d star Sam Neill<\/a> died of pneumonia, his agent confirmed on Thursday.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe BBC reported<\/a> that Philip Grenz, Neill\u2019s longtime agent, decided to reveal the cause after speaking to the actor\u2019s family in order to correct \u201cinaccurate and outright falsehoods\u201d in the media. Neill, who died on Monday<\/a> in Sydney, Australia at the age of 78, had been battling a form of blood cancer since 2022, but revealed in April that he was cancer free. In their announcement, Neill\u2019s family said his death was \u201csudden and unexpected.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAs Sam Neill\u2019s longtime rep, I spoke with his family and wish to clarify some details for his fans,\u201d Grenz said in his statement. \u201cSam passed away from pneumonia. Prior to becoming sick, Sam had valiantly fought and beaten lymphoma through a new treatment called CAR-T therapy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGrenz added that in the past year, Neill had \u201cfilmed four projects back-to-back\u2026 all of which will be released within the coming months.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added, \u201cI\u2019d like to thank those who were truly close to Sam for considering his privacy with the respect he earned and his loved ones need and deserve during this immeasurably difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNeill\u2019s cause of death being pneumonia was first shared on Tuesday by his fellow New Zealand actor Rima Te Waita, who co-starred with him in 2016\u2019s \u201cHunt for the Wilderpeople.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt really sucks, actually,\u201d Te Wiata told the New Zealand Herald. \u201cI think he would be like: \u2018For goodness sake, I got over my cancer. And now look, now I get pneumonia. What next?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNeill\u2019s ex-girlfriend, Australian journalist Laura Tingle, also told \u201cSydney Mornings\u201d that he had been \u201cpretty sick for a couple of weeks<\/a>\u201d leading up to his death. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHe\u2019d been fighting various forms of cancer for at least the last five years intensively. And that takes a toll on anybody\u2019s body,\u201d\u00a0she said. \u201cHe\u2019d had a lot of chemo and a lot of immunotherapy and, thankfully, it had finally cleared him of the blood cancer that he\u2019d had, but it left him pretty compromised in terms of his immune system and I think his poor body sort of got a bit exhausted, as makes sense.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\u201cJurassic Park\u201d star Sam Neill died of pneumonia, his agent confirmed on Thursday.
