{"id":76660,"date":"2025-08-12T07:38:07","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T07:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/76660\/"},"modified":"2025-08-12T07:38:07","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T07:38:07","slug":"taylor-fritz-advances-in-cincinnati-following-power-outage-delay-atp-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/76660\/","title":{"rendered":"Taylor Fritz advances in Cincinnati following power outage delay | ATP Tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>        Match Report<br \/>\n    Fritz advances in Cincinnati following power outage delay<\/p>\n<p>American improves to 6-2 in Lexus ATP Head2Head series against Sonego<\/p>\n<p>August 12, 2025<\/p>\n<p>Dylan Buell\/Getty Image<\/p>\n<p>        Taylor Fritz in action at the Cincinnati Open on Monday.<br \/>\n        By ATP Staff<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atptour.com\/en\/players\/taylor-fritz\/fb98\/overview\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Taylor Fritz<\/a> continued to bounce back from his Toronto semi-final defeat on Monday at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atptour.com\/en\/tournaments\/cincinnati\/422\/overview\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cincinnati Open<\/a>, where he overcame <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atptour.com\/en\/players\/lorenzo-sonego\/su87\/overview\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lorenzo Sonego<\/a> and handled a mid-match power outage to reach the fourth round in Ohio for the third time.<\/p>\n<p>The 27-year-old, who lost to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atptour.com\/en\/players\/ben-shelton\/s0s1\/overview\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ben Shelton<\/a> in straight sets in Canada last week, moved past the Italian 7-6(4), 7-5 in two hours and eight minutes, without facing a break point, to improve to 6-2 in the pair\u2019s Lexus ATP Head2Head series.<\/p>\n<p>After winning a 67-minute opening set, play was suspended for about 75 minutes. Upon resumption, the second set went on serve until 5-all when Sonego missed five first serves to give Fritz the break point he needed. The American then held to love to close out his 38th tour-level victory of the season, according to Infosys ATP Win\/Loss Index.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dI was looking for that break the entire match today,\u201d Fritz said. \u201cI wish I could have gotten it done in the first, when I had a couple of chances. But there\u2019s a lot of scoreboard pressure at the end of the sets, and that\u2019s where a lot of times I am finding that break.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fritz was down 0\/30 serving at 4-5 to stay in the second set, but dug himself out of danger without facing a break point in the game, or the match. Last year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atptour.com\/en\/tournaments\/us-open\/560\/overview\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US Open<\/a> finalist has not been broken in two matches this tournament and has not faced a break point since his second service game in his opening victory over American qualifier <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atptour.com\/en\/players\/emilio-nava\/n0am\/overview\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emilio Nava<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.atptour.com\/en\/news\/it-all-adds-up-hub\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"It All Adds Up\" style=\"width:100%;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1754984287_586_it-all-adds-up-banner.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By advancing to the fourth round, the American has become the only player to reach at least the last 16 at all four hard-court ATP Masters 1000 events in 2025. The 27-year-old advanced to the fourth round in Indian Wells and the semi-finals in Miami and then Toronto last week.<\/p>\n<p>Chasing his first Masters 1000 crown of the season and second overall, the former Indian Wells champ will meet #NextGenATP Brazilian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atptour.com\/en\/players\/joao-fonseca\/f0fv\/overview\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Joao Fonseca<\/a> or Frenchman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atptour.com\/en\/players\/terence-atmane\/a0gc\/overview\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Terence Atmane<\/a> in the fourth round. Fritz is the first American to be among the top four seeds in Cincinnati since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atptour.com\/en\/players\/andy-roddick\/r485\/overview\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andy Roddick<\/a> in 2007<\/p>\n<p>Now 21-4 since the start of June \u2014 a run that includes grass-court titles in Stuttgart and Eastbourne and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atptour.com\/en\/tournaments\/wimbledon\/540\/overview\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wimbledon<\/a> semi-final showing \u2014 Fritz is well positioned in sixth in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin.
