BRASILIA, July 17 (Reuters) – Brazil’s government has authorized nearly 13.3 billion reais ($2.6 billion) in extraordinary \u200ccredit for rural development programs, debt-refinancing initiatives, \u200cand support for sugarcane producers affected by U.S. tariffs, it said \u200bin an extra edition of the official gazette late on Thursday. <\/p>\n
President Donald Trump’s administration announced a 25% tariff on numerous Brazilian products on Wednesday in response \u200cto what it \u2060described as Brazil’s unfair trade practices. <\/p>\n
\u2022 The executive order allocates 9 billion reais for \u2060rural technology development projects, focusing on productivity gains and competitiveness. <\/p>\n
\u2022 It designates 3 billion reais for a \u200bprogram supporting financial \u200brebalancing for borrowers. <\/p>\n
\u2022 The \u200border directs 270 million \u200creais as economic subsidies to independent sugarcane producers in Brazil’s Northeast region affected by extreme weather and by the new U.S. tariffs. <\/p>\n
\u2022 It also provides 1 billion reais for student-loan beneficiaries and 15 million \u200creais for Brazil’s voluntary contribution \u200bto the Inter-American Court of \u200bHuman Rights. <\/p>\n
\u2022 Brazilian \u200bFinance Minister Dario Durigan said on \u200cThursday that the government could announce \u200bby early August \u200bsupport measures for sectors hit by U.S. trade measures. <\/p>\n
