The Cowboys traded Micah Parsons to the Packers before the start of the 2025 season. As part of their effort to replace the All-Pro edge rusher, the Cowboys acquired Rashan Gary for a fourth-round pick during the offseason.<\/p>\n

Gary, a former first-round pick of Green Bay who signed a four-year $96 million extension in 2023, has 46.5 sacks in seven seasons.<\/p>\n

His entire focus heading into his first season in Dallas is to become what Parsons already is.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m trying to be great<\/a>,\u201d Gary told Joseph Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News. \u201cThat\u2019s my thing. I\u2019m not just here to say I played in the NFL. I want to be a dominant factor. When I hang up my cleats, I want people to say, \u2018Man, Rashan Gary was blah, blah, blah,\u2019 whatever the case may be. It\u2019s my legacy. It\u2019s what I\u2019m going to leave my kids. It\u2019s bigger than me now.\u201d <\/p>\n

Gary has gone from mentee to mentor, helping the Cowboys\u2019 young pass rushers, Donovan Ezeiruaku and Malachi Lawrence, in what will be an edge rusher-by-committee. Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer recently called Gary a \u201cgrown-ass man\u201d when asked about Gary\u2019s professionalism. <\/p>\n

While the Cowboys have missed the postseason the past two years, Gary has played nine postseason games in his seven seasons. The 2022 season is the only season Gary has watched all of the playoffs from home.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou see what football brings to you, then you understand that you can\u2019t play this game lightly,\u201d Gary said of his message to teammates. \u201cYou can never cheat the game, and I\u2019m a big believer in that and the football gods. So just understanding the things that football has brought to me and how it\u2019s changed my life.
