Two sirens were sounded along the South Fork, and one was activated in Hunt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">&gt;&gt; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/national\/2026\/07\/18\/texas-hill-country-floods-test-new-warning-systems-after-last-years-deadly-disaster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/national\/2026\/07\/18\/texas-hill-country-floods-test-new-warning-systems-after-last-years-deadly-disaster\/\">Texas Hill Country floods test new warning systems after last year\u2019s deadly disaster<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Three other sirens were not activated since those sites recorded only minor flooding, Bushnoe said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Upgrades to the area\u2019s flood warning system were far from done when a new round of storms began pummeling the Hill Country this week, triggering catastrophic flash floods in some of the same areas devastated on July 4, 2025. At least two people died this week, and more than 500 people were rescued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">But residents in some hard-hit areas said a year of preparation did make a difference, the Associated Press reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Residents told the AP that phones buzzed with alerts that weren\u2019t sent out in last year\u2019s disaster.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Bushnoe also pointed to new emergency procedures and UGRA\u2019s \u201cRiverHub\u201d dashboard as important tools during the flood response.
