Iraq’s
\nMinistry of Transport suspended eight senior Iraqi Airways officials on Sunday
\nas authorities investigate the disappearance of 16 billion Iraqi dinars
\n($12.2M) from the state-owned carrier’s accounts.<\/p>\n
An
\nofficial document showed that Transport Minister Wahab Salman al-Hassani
\nordered the suspensions under Iraq’s State Employees Discipline Law, pending
\nthe outcome of the investigation.<\/p>\n
Those
\naffected include Muthanna Mohammed Hashoush, commercial director; Abbas Taama
\nAwad, former legal director; Mohammed Mahmoud Mohammed, contracts director;
\nIyass Saadi Musajjal, former finance director; Zainab Mohammed Abdul Redha,
\nhead of the revenue audit section; Muayyad Ibrahim Ubaid of the legal
\ndepartment; Hanan Khazal Faraj of the branch accounts department; and Haider
\nHusni Alwan, head of the fuel section.<\/p>\n
A source
\nfamiliar with the matter told Shafaq News that the move was intended to allow
\ninvestigators to complete their inquiry into the missing funds without
\ninterference.<\/p>\n
Earlier The
\non Sunday, another source indicated that Iraq’s Anti-Corruption Committee is
\npreparing a list of about 127 people suspected<\/a> of amassing wealth through
\nillicit property purchases and overseas investments made with public funds, as
\npart of the ongoing “Dawn Crackdown” (Sawlat Al-Fajr), a nationwide
\nanti-corruption campaign<\/a> launched on June 28 under the directive of Prime
\nMinister Ali Al-Zaidi.<\/p>\n
\ncampaign has led to the arrest of 67 officials, with the number of suspects
