WASHINGTON \u2014 The Washington Mystics continue to show why their young core is the beginning of something special. On Thursday, Sonia Citron became the fourth fastest player in franchise history to score 1,000 career points.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Mystics dropped a game against the Portland Fire, 75-56, when Citron hit her milestone. The Notre Dame alum had a quiet evening in her 64th career game, with eight points, six rebounds and three assists. But those eight points put her in company with Washington legends like Elena Delle Donne, Nikki McCray and Chamique Holdsclaw who reached the 1,000-point mark in 64 games or less.\u00a0<\/p>\n
At 22 years, 267 days old, Citron is the youngest Mystics player to score 1,000 points and the fifth youngest player in WNBA history.<\/p>\n
In the June 28 contest vs. Portland, Citron logged a career-best 32 points, six rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block. This was her second game recording 30 or more points. Her first was May 15 against the Indiana Fever.<\/p>\n
Citron is also one of the more guarded players in the league. She has been guarded by an opponent\u2019s leading defender on 29% of possessions, which is an increase from 23% last season. She is double-teamed at a 75th percentile rate compared to just 50th percentile in her rookie year.<\/p>\n
The Mystics are 3-2 in their last five games and 12-12 overall. They look to take on the Golden State Valkyries Monday night to close out their series for the regular season. Washington has yet to win against Golden State this season.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The last time Citron played against the Valkyries, she scored 12 points and dished out four assists on Saturday night. Although the Mystics lost to Golden State, 74-69, it was the eighth time the Mystics prevented an opponent from scoring at least 75 points this season. It marks the second-highest in the league.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Washington outrebounded Golden State 37-26, which makes this the eighth game recording a 10 or more rebound differential in 2026, another high mark in the league.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Shakira Austin also scored 18 points and had a career-high-tying 16 rebounds. She is now the ninth leading rebounder in franchise history, capturing 905 boards, surpassing Chasity Melvin, who had 891 boards.
