That decade kicked off with a bang musically, and the following four songs are just as memorable today as they were 50+ years ago. Let\u2019s get nostalgic and revisit some excellent tunes!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho\u2019ll Stop The Rain\u201d by Creedence Clearwater Revival from \u2018Cosmo\u2019s Factory\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tPlay video<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1784582230_714_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Play\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Creedence Clearwater Revival had a hit on their hands with this John Fogerty-penned folk rock classic. \u201cWho\u2019ll Stop The Rain\u201d is a bit of a philosophical gem, and the folk rock vibe throughout was somewhat new for the band at the time, at least compared to the 1950s-inspired \u201cTravelin\u2019 Band\u201c. This enduring classic rock hit made it to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tVideos by American Songwriter\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstant Karma!\u201d by John Lennon<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tPlay video<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1784582231_539_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Play\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Well, I couldn\u2019t avoid this one. Even if you\u2019re not a baby boomer, you know the melody and some of the lyrics of this iconic solo hit by former Beatle John Lennon. This stunning piece of work was a pretty big deal on the charts. It was competing with The Beatles\u2019 \u201cLet It Be\u201d on the US charts, and \u201cInstant Karma!\u201d would go on to become the first solo song by a Beatle to sell over a million copies. \u201cInstant Karma!\u201d peaked at No. 3 on the Hot 100 and No. 5 on the UK Singles chart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBridge Over Troubled Water\u201d by Simon &amp; Garfunkel from \u2018Bridge Over Troubled Water\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tPlay video<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1784582231_785_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Play\"\/><\/p>\n<p>This beautiful pop rock song remains one of Simon &amp; Garfunkel\u2019s most famous songs, and it\u2019ll probably still be adored for decades more. But back in 1970, it was a total smash hit and virtually inescapable on the radio. \u201cBridge Over Troubled Water\u201d peaked at No. 1 on the Hot 100 and UK Singles charts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNeanderthal Man\u201d by Hotlegs\/10cc from \u2018Thinks: School Stinks\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tPlay video<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1784582232_745_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Play\"\/><\/p>\n<p>If the name Hotlegs doesn\u2019t sound familiar, that\u2019s probably because they would soon change their name to <a href=\"https:\/\/americansongwriter.com\/tag\/10cc\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">10cc<\/a>. Does \u201cI\u2019m Not In Love\u201d ring a bell?
