Milk brand Fairlife<\/a> is pausing its production in the US after a ransomware cyberattack breached the company\u2019s systems.<\/p>\n

Coca-Cola, which owns Fairlife, announced Thursday that its dairy company had identified \u201cunauthorized access by a third party\u201d to a portion of its systems, including those related to production. The company disclosed that this was in connection to a ransomware event \u2014 and in response, it took some operations offline.<\/p>\n

\u201cProduct quality and safety have not been impacted,\u201d Atlanta-based Coca-Cola said in a statement. \u201cHowever, as a result of the incident, production operations at fairlife in the United States are temporarily suspended.\u201d<\/p>\n

Coca-Cola announced on Thursday that their milk brand, Fairlife, had identified a ransomware attack, including in their production system. John Oncken, Wisconsin State Farmer via Imagn Content Services, LLC<\/p>\n

Fairlife\u2019s Canadian operations were not affected. The full scope and impacts of the attack are otherwise still unknown, Coca-Cola added \u2014 but the beverage giant said it had informed law enforcement<\/a>, and is also working with cybersecurity experts as it continues its investigation and recovery to restore operations.<\/p>\n

A company spokesperson said there were no further updates to share as of Friday morning.<\/p>\n

Cyberattacks are on the rise across sectors. Beyond dairy goods, other breaches have recently resulted in anything from\u00a0core education services\u00a0getting knocked offline<\/a> to\u00a0empty shelves\u00a0at popular clothing or grocery stores.<\/p>\n

Ransomware attacks are when hackers want a payment in order to repair a system hack, so they tend to target brands. AP<\/p>\n

Ransomware attacks<\/a> \u2014 in which hackers demand a hefty payment to restore hacked systems \u2014 also account for a growing share of cyber crimes. And experts note that attackers know there\u2019s a particular impact when\u00a0going after well-known brands and products\u00a0that shoppers buy or need every day.<\/p>\n

Fairlife, based in Chicago, touts over $3 billion in annual retail sales today.
