{"id":775278,"date":"2026-07-21T05:44:29","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T05:44:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/775278\/"},"modified":"2026-07-21T05:44:29","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T05:44:29","slug":"mavericks-add-jett-howard-on-two-way-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/775278\/","title":{"rendered":"Mavericks Add Jett Howard On Two-Way Deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Mavericks have signed free agent wing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/howarje01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-20_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jett Howard<\/a> to a two-way contract, the team announced in a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/mavs\/news\/mavericks-sign-jett-howard-to-two-way-contract\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Jett-Howard-vert-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-485057\"  \/>Dallas opened up a two-way spot on Monday by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/07\/mavericks-waiving-tyler-smith.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">waiving<\/a> forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/smithty02.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-20_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tyler Smith<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Howard, a 6\u20198\u2033 guard\/forward, spent his first three seasons with the Magic, the team that drafted him 11th overall in 2023. Orlando declined its fourth-year option on Howard last fall, which put him on track for unrestricted free agency in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The reason the Magic didn\u2019t exercise that option is because Howard averaged 3.8 points and 1.0 rebound in 9.8 minutes per game in 78 combined appearances over his first two seasons, with a shooting line of .370\/.294\/.667.<\/p>\n<p>The 22-year-old was a little more productive \u2014 and far more efficient \u2014 in 2025\/26, averaging 5.5 PPG and 1.6 RPG on .418\/.372\/.949 shooting. But he wasn\u2019t a consistent part of the rotation, averaging just 12.6 MPG in 55 games.<\/p>\n<p>Howard played one year of college basketball at Michigan under his father, then-head coach Juwan Howard. The elder Howard had two stints with the Mavs during his long playing career, notes Marc Stein of The Stein Line (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TheSteinLine\/status\/2079372547276018032\" rel=\"nofollow\">via Twitter<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Jett Howard\u2019s two-way contract will pay him $678,882 in 2026\/27, half of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/07\/nba-minimum-salaries-for-2026-27.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">rookie minimum<\/a>. He\u2019s eligible to be active in up to 50 of Dallas\u2019 82 regular season games and won\u2019t be eligible for the postseason (if the Mavericks make it) unless he\u2019s converted to a standard deal at some point.<\/p>\n<p>Howard\u2019s contract will cover one season.
