href="https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/leisure/?ref=au" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Leisure Hub, where an underused squash court has been converted into a larger group exercise studio designed to meet growing demand for fitness and wellbeing classes.

The project was completed in June and forms part of the council’s wider programme of improvements to leisure facilities across the borough.

The new studio features sprung flooring, mirrored walls, specialist lighting, upgraded ventilation, improved acoustics, and new audio-visual technology.

A squash court has been retained at the centre, allowing residents to continue playing racquet sports while also benefiting from an expanded fitness offer.

Council officials said the investment followed a review of participation trends and customer demand, which identified opportunities to make better use of existing space within the leisure hub.

Over the coming months, the centre plans to expand its programme of classes and introduce a new Les Mills fitness programme, which will include both instructor-led and virtual sessions.

The council said the scheme had also been designed with sustainability in mind by repurposing existing space rather than building an extension.

Energy-efficient LED lighting and upgraded ventilation systems have also been installed.

Councillor David Whittington, leader of West Lancashire Council, said: “This investment demonstrates our commitment to continuously improving leisure facilities for residents and ensuring our centres evolve to meet changing customer needs.

“The new studio provides a fantastic modern environment for group exercise and wellbeing activities, allowing us to expand our class programme and offer an even greater choice for members.

“We’re particularly excited about the introduction of the new Les Mills programme, which will give residents access to industry-leading fitness classes delivered both by our instructors and through innovative virtual technology.”

He added: “The feedback we’ve received already has been extremely positive, and we’re delighted to see residents embracing the new space and the opportunities it creates for healthier and more active lifestyles.”

According to the council, early feedback from members has been overwhelmingly positive, with users praising the studio’s spacious layout, atmosphere, and upgraded facilities.

One regular member described the studio as “a huge improvement that feels like a completely new fitness space”, while another said the larger room and improved sound system had “transformed the class experience”.

The new studio is now open to members at Burscough Wellbeing and Leisure Hub.

West Lancashire Council has completed work at Burscough Wellbeing and Leisure Hub, where an underused squash
