We’ll keep you up to date on the top targets, the visits they take, the predictions that analysts make, and everything in between. Here’s what you need to know today…

Michigan predicted to land legacy prospect

The Wolverines recently hosted one of their top targets in the 2028 class in four-star edge rusher Asa Burch. A legacy prospect, Burch is the son of former Michigan defensive back Alfie Burch, and his two-day trip to Ann Arbor in June left a big impression on him, just like his visit to Michigan back in April as well.

Now, a little more than a month after that unofficial visit, it appears the Wolverines have taken a huge lead in his recruitment. Late last week, Rivals’ Allen Trieu and On3’s Ethan McDowell ($) both submitted predictions for the 6-foot-5, 220-pounder from Warren, Ohio to eventually commit to Michigan.

Defensive ends coach Lewis Powell is Burch’s primary recruiter, and the two of them have formed a pretty tight bond so far.

“He just loves his players like they’re his family or sons,” Burch said. “That means a lot to me. I love how he holds himself. He’s a great coach.”

We are still a long ways away from 2028 class members having to sign their letter of intent, but it’s clear that the Wolverines have laid the groundwork to establish the early lead with Burch. He holds other offers from blue bloods like Penn State, Notre Dame, Ohio State and others, but Michigan will be really tough to beat here.

Michigan offers 2027 DL prospect

Michigan recently made an intriguing offer in the 2027 class last week, extending a scholarship to defensive tackle Amanaki Henoa. The 6-foot-4, 310-pounder is originally a rugby player from New Zealand, but moved to the state of Oregon last year in hopes of eventually playing college football.

However, his hopes and dreams took a hit when the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) denied him eligibility. He continued to practice and train with his team, but unfortunately was unable to play in actual games last season. He has since transferred to Lake Christian Academy in Layton, Utah, and is looking forward to playing his one and only year of high school football before taking his talents to the college level.

Speaking with The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich ($), Henoa detailed what it was like getting his very first scholarship offer from a school like Michigan.

“My high school coach, Ray Stowers (been in communication with) coach Lewis Powell and let’s just say I passed the eye test (for them),” Henoa said. “I couldn’t believe my first offer ever is from Michigan. I still can’t believe it.”

Powell appears to be the lead recruiter here — at least for now — and much like with Burch, Powell has made a big impression in the early goings on Henoa.

“Coach Powell is a great man,” he said. “He has a talent to see potential in kids who are under the radar and I’m blessed to be one of the one kids. We also talked about my background and where I came from.

“It means a lot, especially Michigan being my first offer ever. He also ran for 542 yards and an additional nine touchdowns.

Gaines earned his Michigan offer from quarterbacks coach Koy Detmer Jr. back in May, and he recently told On3’s McDowell ($) what Detmer likes about his game and what he likes about Detmer overall.

“He likes my athletic ability, the way I spin the ball and then he also likes my my character,” Gaines said. “… He keeps it real with me. He told me they’re not going to kiss no butt to nobody. Everywhere they went, they won so far. I like the way he coaches. I’m going up there this fall, most likely, so I’m looking forward to that.”

Gaines is not in a rush to make a decision, as he told McDowell he wants to get through his junior season before advancing his recruitment much further.

“I want to know they want me, make me a priority to them,” Gaines said. “Also, my development there, my plan there.
