Recent blood pressure medication recalls<\/a> have occurred repeatedly for issues with how they dissolve, as the chemical composition of a drug can modify due to factors such as temperature in storage, or just over time. The latter reason is primarily why expiration dates on medications<\/a> exist\u2014mainly because their potency can weaken between when they’re made and when they’re administered to the patient.<\/p>\n

That’s an important point in a newly updated recall on blood pressure medication due to the wrong expiration date being listed.<\/p>\n

On Friday, July 17, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) shared details<\/a> on a 2025 recall that affected 7,668 bottles of prescription Amlodipine and Benazepril HCl Capsules dispensed in 100-count bottles containing 2.5-milligram\/10-milligram dosages.<\/p>\n

The reason for the recall was an unusual one, as the FDA report reads: Labeling: Incorrect or Missing Lot and\/or Exp Date: released with wrong expiry date as Feb. 2027 instead of Jan. 2027.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Indeed, further FDA details show a labeled expiration date of 2\/28\/2027, corresponding to lot GB01616. The recalling firm was Florida-based Lupin Pharmaceuticals.<\/p>\n

The nationwide recall<\/a> was first initiated on July 2, 2025. The FDA has since given the event a Class II<\/a> assignment\u2014their mid-risk level on their three-tier system, indicating “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”<\/p>\n

Lupin Pharmaceuticals’ site suggests<\/a> Amlodipine and Benazepril HCl Capsules may be a generic alternative to Novartis’s brand-name, Lotrel. The Mayo Clinic<\/a> explains:<\/p>\n

“Amlodipine and benazepril is a combination of medicines that are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) \u2026<\/p>\n

“Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker (CCB). It affects the movement of calcium into the cells of the heart and blood vessels. This relaxes the blood vessels and lowers blood pressure. A lower blood pressure will increase the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart.<\/p>\n

“Benazepril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It works by blocking a substance in the body that causes the blood vessels to tighten. This relaxes the blood vessels and lowers blood pressure.”<\/p>\n

If you missed the 2025 recall and still have Lupin’s version of the recalled drug lot, it may be advisable to contact your prescriber or pharmacist immediately for a replacement.<\/p>\n
