\nPresident Joseph Aoun on Wednesday argued that Hezbollah\u2019s disarmament is
\npossible if there is genuine political will, linking the move to the withdrawal
\nof Israeli forces from Lebanese territory, the Lebanese army\u2019s full control
\nover the country, and a state-led reconstruction effort.<\/p>\n
Speaking
\nduring a dinner hosted in his honor by Lebanon\u2019s ambassador to Washington, Nada
\nHamadeh Moawad, as part of his visit to the United States, Aoun stressed that
\nthe Lebanese army must assume full control over all Lebanese territory, while
\nreconstruction efforts should remain solely under state authority and free from
\nexternal interference.<\/p>\n
The
\nLebanese president also described Lebanon\u2019s model of coexistence and pluralism
\nas significant not only for the country but also for the wider Middle East,
\nnoting that a successful Lebanese experience could offer a message of hope for
\nthe region and beyond.<\/p>\n

\nTuesday, Aoun met US President Donald Trump at the White House, where Washington
\npledged<\/a> to help address Lebanon\u2019s challenges and expand its assistance to
\nBeirut. Trump also indicated his willingness to engage with Hezbollah, \u201cif the
\nLebanese president wants me to talk to the group.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nbegan a several-day visit to the United States, during which he met with
\nmembers of Congress and US administration officials. He previously discussed<\/a>
\nwith US Secretary of State Marco Rubio the implementation of the trilateral
\nframework agreement between the United States, Lebanon, and Israel, as well as
\nissues related to the pilot phase of the proposed zone in southern Lebanon and
\nHezbollah\u2019s disarmament.<\/p>\n
