\n\tWith the Big Bang Theory spin-off machine operating in full force after nearly 20 years, series co-creator Chuck Lorre<\/a> explained the choice behind the franchise\u2019s latest lead.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile discussing Stuart Fails to Save the Universe<\/a>, premiering Thursday at 9pm ET on HBO Max, Lorre explained that the titular comic book store owner was \u201cthe absolute worst choice\u201d for the offshoot as he was a minor character that nobody would expect to step up and save the world.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHe was the absolute worst choice to be the hero of this story, which made him the perfect choice,\u201d Lorre told People<\/a>. \u201cAnd Kevin Sussman<\/a>, as I\u2019m sure you know, is just a brilliant comic actor, someone you can root for despite his inadequacies. You can look for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLorre noted that \u201cit was always Kevin\u201d he had in mind for the series, adding, \u201cAnd right from the very beginning it was Kevin, and the comic book story was.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSussman previously admitted to Deadline that leading his own spin-off \u201cwas not on my bingo card<\/a>\u201d as a working actor. \u201cI was not expecting this,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, Stuart Bloom (Sussman) must stop a \u201cmultiverse armageddon\u201d after accidentally damaging a device created by Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter. The adventure leads Stuart and his friends to encounter alternate versions of themselves across other universes.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe spin-off, from co-creators Lorre, Zak Penn and Bill Prady, sees Stuart reunite with his pals Bert (Brian Posehn), Denise (Lauren Lapkus) and Kripke (John Ross Bowie).<\/p>\n
