{"id":779353,"date":"2026-07-23T06:20:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T06:20:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/779353\/"},"modified":"2026-07-23T06:20:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T06:20:10","slug":"d4vds-tesla-filled-with-air-fresheners-when-teens-body-discovered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/779353\/","title":{"rendered":"D4vd&#8217;s Tesla Filled With Air Fresheners When Teen&#8217;s Body Discovered"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAt least 11 air fresheners were found inside <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/d4vd\/\" id=\"auto-tag_d4vd\" data-tag=\"d4vd\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">D4vd<\/a>\u2018s Tesla along with the decomposing remains of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, including one that was found under a pile of maggots in the vehicle\u2019s front trunk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tTestifying on the second day of a preliminary hearing, Chelsea Murillo, a criminalist with the Los Angeles Police Department, said most of the air fresheners were recovered from the center console of the Tesla Model X, while others were tucked into rear-seat pockets. She also recalled a \u201cstrong odor\u201d when she helped process the vehicle on Sept. 9, 2025, one day after Rivas\u2019 dismembered remains were found inside two bags in a storage compartment beneath the front hood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cThe odor resembled a decomposing body, based on my professional experience,\u201d she said. Prosecutors showed a photo of the recovered air fresheners, as well as one depicting the large mass of fly larvae covering the Febreze pod near where the body had been concealed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tMurillo\u2019s testimony then turned to suspected blood evidence, a subject that dominated the rest of the day as another criminalist described what investigators found in Burke\u2019s garage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tMurillo said that, in addition to examining the \u201cinsect activity\u201d in the Tesla\u2019s front trunk, she found stains in a lower compartment of the Tesla\u2019s rear trunk that appeared to be blood. After she sprayed Bluestar, a luminol-like chemical used to detect possible blood traces, portions of the rear trunk and an area of paneling near the third row began to glow. She said she collected swabs for testing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWhen Deputy District Attorney Beth Silverman asked whether she was aware that some of the samples had tested positive not only for blood but also for the victim\u2019s DNA, Murillo said she was. On cross-examination, defense lawyer Blair Berk elicited that, of all the swabs Murillo collected after the black bags containing Rivas\u2019 dismembered remains were removed from the front trunk, only two yielded blood DNA, and neither came from the passenger compartment.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tA second LAPD criminologist, Lauren Wallace, testified next, reviewing what police found during their Sept. 17 search of the rental home where Burke had been living, and where he allegedly killed and dismembered Rivas. Wallace said Bluestar was used to look for alleged traces of blood in the garage, and it lit up blue after being sprayed on a large patch of the black rubber floor mats, as well as the brick floor underneath. Wallace also said got presumptive positive test results for blood from a nearby rowing machine, a crumpled up green tarp, and brown-stained wipes found in a black trash bag in the garage.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWallace shared new testimony too about the inflatable pool Burke allegedly used to collect blood while dismembering Rivas. After unrolling the pool, Wallace said it \u201cappeared to have a fresh, almost laundry like scene,\u201d and noted that there were dryer sheets stuck to it. While she didn\u2019t observe any blood on the pool, when she sprayed it with Bluestar, there was a patch that glowed blue, indicating likely traces of blood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tD4vd, the 21-year-old singer born David Anthony Burke, watched the testimony while seated in an orange jail uniform at the defense table. He has pleaded not guilty to murdering Rivas on April 23, 2025, at his Hollywood Hills home to cover up his alleged sexual abuse of the girl, who was five years younger. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tEarlier in the day, the court heard from Louis Poimiroo, a senior vice president of finance at Interscope, Burke\u2019s former label. Prosecutors sought his testimony to support their claim that Burke killed Rivas to protect a lucrative career. Poimiroo detailed Interscope\u2019s total payments to Burke and his companies from 2022, when he signed with Interscope and its imprint, Darkroom, through 2025. This included $3.9 million in 2023 and $2.3 million in 2025. He confirmed that Interscope terminated Burke\u2019s deal at the end of 2025 and has paid him nothing in 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\tRelated Content<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tA California Highway Patrol Officer testified next, telling the judge he collected Celeste\u2019s U.S. Passport ID from a transit worker who found it off a Santa Barbara highway on Jan. 7, 2026. The card, issued on May 20, 2022, was shown on the screen in court, with a photo of Celeste as an 11-year-old appearing prominently, set against a blue pattern with an eagle and stars.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBurke\u2019s preliminary hearing began on Tuesday (July 22), when prosecutors shared <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/d4vd-evidence-hearing-celeste-rivas-hernandez-photos-1235596063\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">graphic photographs<\/a> of Rivas\u2019 decomposed and dismembered remains found in the Tesla. The images showed her head and torso in one black plastic bag, and her arms and legs in another. Prosecutors said flecks of blue plastic on her right knee came from an inflatable pool Burke allegedly used to collect blood while dismembering her body.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tRivas\u2019 mother, Mercedes Mart\u00ednez, bowed her head and cried in the front row of the courtroom as the photos were shown. Burke, seated at the defense table wearing an orange jail uniform, showed no visible emotion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tLAPD Det. Joshua Byers testified that decomposition had made it impossible to identify Rivas by her face: \u201cThe skin slippage made it unrecognizable.\u201d Byers also revealed that Burke had the name \u201cCeleste\u201d tattooed in cursive red ink on his left ring finger when he was arrested in April.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe preliminary hearing is expected to last several days, after which a judge will decide whether prosecutors have presented enough evidence to send the case to trial. Burke\u2019s lawyers sought Tuesday to expose gaps in the investigation, questioning why the exterior of his Tesla and items from his home had not undergone more extensive testing, including DNA analysis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tProsecutors allege Burke summoned Rivas to his Hollywood Hills home in an Uber on April 23, 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/celeste-rivas-hernandez-cause-of-death-d4vd-arrest-1235550788\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stabbed her to death<\/a> in her upper abdomen, then left on a promotional tour for his album Withered. They say he later returned to Los Angeles, dismembered her body, and concealed the remains in his Tesla.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBurke has pleaded not guilty to murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, and unlawful mutilation of human remains. Burke\u2019s lawyer, Blair Berk, has said the evidence will show that he did not murder Rivas or cause her death. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIf convicted as charged, he faces life in prison without parole or the death penalty. Prosecutors have not said whether they will seek a death sentence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tDuring the first day of the preliminary hearing yesterday (July 21),\u00a0Deputy District Attorney Beth Silverman played about 10 minutes of body-camera footage showing Los Angeles County Sheriff\u2019s deputies visiting Burke in February 2024, days after Rivas\u2019 parents first reported her missing. Riverside County investigators had found Burke\u2019s number in the teen\u2019s phone records, informed him of her age, and warned him that deputies would visit, prosecutors allege. Burke told the deputies that he had met Rivas on Discord and Instagram and had seen her once in person, at a Lake Elsinore home in November 2023. He also claimed Rivas told her she was 18, and said they had last communicated four days earlier.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tProsecutors allege that after Rivas returned home soon after, and that her parents confiscated her phone. Burke allegedly bought Rivas a burner phone and paid a classmate $1,000 to deliver it. Byers testified that investigators later found evidence that Burke traveled with Rivas to Texas and London and purchased both of their airline tickets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tByers also outlined evidence that prosecutors say places Burke behind the wheel of the Tesla when it was abandoned. Data from the car showed that Burke\u2019s unrecovered iPhone 16 disconnected from the vehicle at 2:18 p.m. on July 29, 2025. Two minutes later, a neighbor\u2019s camera recorded Burke walking back toward his rental house, Byers testified.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAutomated license-plate readers on passing LAPD vehicles repeatedly recorded the Tesla in the same parking spot between July 29 and Sept. 8, suggesting that it remained there until it was impounded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tByers testified that Burke bought two chainsaws on Amazon on May 1, using the alias Trayvion Davis. He said the singer purchased a third chainsaw from Home Depot three days later and had it delivered through Uber Postmates. That chainsaw was never recovered. Records showed that Burke also bought a mop-and-bucket system on May 4, a \u201cburn cage\u201d on July 7, and a fireproof mat on July 12, Byers said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAlong with Byers, the first day of the hearing included testimony from Benjamin Greger, a former financial manager at Burke\u2019s management company, Mogul Vision. Prosecutors also called him to support their contention that Burke killed Rivas to protect his career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tGreger, who said he still works for Burke\u2019s family on a $7,500 monthly retainer, estimated that Burke had generated roughly $10 million to $11.5 million in gross earnings through recording, merchandising and music-publishing deals.
