Central Vermont Community Radio (CVCR) will leave its current home after the broadcaster was notified that its lease will not be renewed.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s according to a report by VermontBiz<\/a>, which says CVCR must vacate its facility at the Creative Campus at Goddard by March 1, 2027.<\/p>\n

CVCR operates variety WGDR-FM (91.1) and WGDH (91.7), and online programming through WGDR.org<\/a>. The Creative Campus is a redevelopment project on the former campus of Goddard College, which closed in 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was not our decision or our plan, but we are ready to meet the moment,\u201d Llu Mulvaney-Stanak, CVCR executive director, says in the VermontBiz report.<\/p>\n

Station leaders said the lease decision was disappointing but not entirely unexpected after the college\u2019s closure and uncertainty about the campus\u2019 long-term future.<\/p>\n

CVCR said a major step in protecting the station\u2019s future was the relocation of WGDR\u2019s broadcast antenna before the lease decision was announced. The station said the move ensures that its over-the-air service will continue after it leaves the campus.<\/p>\n

\u201cHad the antenna still been on campus, this lease decision could have forced WGDR off the air permanently. Instead, our broadcast future is secure,\u201d Mulvaney-Stanak said.<\/p>\n

After more than five decades at its current location, CVCR said it plans to relocate to a more visible, community-centered location designed to expand partnerships, improve accessibility and support long-term sustainability.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an emotional moment for everyone connected to the station,\u201d said Tom McMurdo, chair of the CVCR Board. \u201cWe are leaving a place filled with decades of history and thousands of listener connections. But this is also a wonderful opportunity for the community to shape this new chapter of CVCR.\u201d<\/p>\n

CVCR also announced that its new WGDR antenna is fully operational, providing improved signal quality and a revised broadcast coverage map.<\/p>\n

The station said it plans to apply for FM translator stations during the FCC\u2019s noncommercial filing window in August<\/a>. CVCR is currently evaluating potential sites and developing its application strategy.<\/p>\n

\u201cBroadcast radio remains essential for discovery, emergency communication, and everyday listening,\u201d McMurdo said. \u201cAt the same time, we are committed to meeting audiences wherever they are, including online and on demand.\u201d<\/p>\n

CVCR said the upcoming FCC filing window represents an important opportunity for noncommercial broadcasters, with significant national interest expected.<\/p>\n

Station officials said the past several weeks have marked a pivotal period in CVCR\u2019s history as the organization transitions from a college campus-based operation to a broader community-focused broadcaster.<\/p>\n
