LA PAZ, July 22 (Reuters) – Bolivia \u200cis “days away” from announcing an agreement with the \u200cInternational Monetary Fund for $2.5 billion to $2.8 billion in financing, Economy \u200bMinister Gabriel Espinoza told a local radio Wednesday. <\/p>\n
\u2022 More than half of the IMF funds will arrive by early September and will be used exclusively to reinforce \u200cthe central bank’s \u2060foreign exchange reserves, Espinoza said. <\/p>\n
\u2022 The IMF deal is expected to trigger further agreements \u2060with other multilateral organizations, potentially boosting total funding for the country to more than $5 billion this year, \u200bhe added. <\/p>\n
\u2022 \u200bThe minister stressed that \u200bthe IMF validated the \u200cgovernment’s ongoing economic program and its goals for reducing the fiscal deficit. <\/p>\n
\u2022 An IMF spokesperson told Reuters the entity remains “in close contact with the Bolivian authorities” and discussions are ongoing. <\/p>\n
\u2022 In May, Bolivia nearly halved \u200cits external financing expectations for \u200bthis year to around $5 billion, \u200bfrom the $9 billion \u200bpreviously projected. <\/p>\n
\u2022 The government’s economic plan includes \u200ctransitioning to a single, flexible \u200bexchange rate, \u200bimplemented in June, to support the productive sector instead of relying on state-defined rates, he added. <\/p>\n
