SOUTH ZANESVILLE, Ohio \u2013 A golf fundraising tradition with 20 years of history continued on Thursday in Zanesville.\u00a0 At EagleSticks Golf Club, the Eastside Community Ministry has teed up for its 20th annual golf outing. 19 teams have hit the green to support youth programs at Eastside.<\/p>\n
The youth program called the Learning for Life program teaches money and household management, cooking, laundering, and other lifelong skills that help participants grow into independent adults.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo our year-round youth program, it takes place after school in the summertime. We take up to 40 children from the ages of kindergarten through 12th grade; we pick them up from school, we have homework help, 4-H programs, do lots of field trips in the summer and this is open and free to Muskingum County children,\u201d said Jamie Trout, the executive director of Eastside Community Ministry. \u201cWe do cap off at that 40, we have a waiting list right now but it\u2019s just a great program. \u201d<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s golf outing raised more than $20,000 for the non-profit organization through the combination of golfers and event sponsors. This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Eastside, which aims to help people meet their basic needs and offer education, life skills training, and relationship-building opportunities.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a pretty big deal, a lot of our volunteers that work so hard on this have been with us for over 15 years. It\u2019s just a great day. You come out here to EagleSticks, they\u2019re just really great to work with and all the sponsors that continue to come back just makes us feel good because we know that we\u2019re doing something right in this community for people to continue to support what we do\u201d Trout said.<\/p>\n
