{"id":781646,"date":"2026-07-24T10:51:14","date_gmt":"2026-07-24T10:51:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/781646\/"},"modified":"2026-07-24T10:51:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T10:51:14","slug":"united-states-teen-enjoys-good-test-of-qualifiers-at-fencing-world-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/781646\/","title":{"rendered":"United States teen enjoys \u2018good test\u2019 of qualifiers at Fencing World Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">United States teenage star Jaelyn Liu said the preliminary rounds at the Kerry Fencing World Championships on Friday were a \u201cgood test\u201d for her after a difficult season.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The winner of the World Cup in Hong Kong in January 2025 and third-place finisher at the Pan American Championships five months later, Liu\u2019s best senior result this season in eight competitions was 12th at the Turin Grand Prix in February.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Ranked No 43 in the world, Liu scraped through the pool stage with three wins in five bouts before beating Amita Berthier of Singapore 15-13.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cI didn\u2019t have as good of a season as I did last year, which is why I can\u2019t start in the main tableau,\u201d the 17-year-old said. \u201cBut it\u2019s actually very rewarding to know that I can work my way up every time, and that I deserve my spot in the main tableau every single time.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cI definitely think the preliminaries are a good placement at least, a good test for me. And I usually, after a very hard day, the first day, it seems to me that I get more adjusted to the competition, so I\u2019m a little bit more ready for the second day at least.\u201d<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The dip in results for Liu, who will face world No 14 Sumire Tsuji on Monday at AsiaWorld-Expo, did not concern her coach Ralf Bissdorf.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Jaelyn Liu (right) won the World Cup in Hong Kong in January 2025.
