Iran must
\nhalt attacks on Saudi Arabia and other Gulf States before any US-Iran peace
\ntalks can resume, Reuters reported on Friday, revealing that Islamabad has
\nalready conveyed the condition to Tehran as it works with China to revive
\ndiplomacy aimed at ending nearly five months of fighting.<\/p>\n
Citing
\nthree Pakistani sources familiar with the effort, the outlet learned that
\nIslamabad is working to restart stalled negotiations between Washington and
\nTehran, although significant hurdles continue to complicate any return to the
\nnegotiating table.<\/p>\n
“The
\nChinese are unhappy because Iran’s attacks on other Gulf States and the closure
\nof the Strait of Hormuz are hitting their interests,” a Pakistani
\ngovernment official remarked, noting that continued disruption in the Red Sea
\nwould threaten another strategic trade route on which Beijing depends.<\/p>\n
China’s
\nForeign Ministry previously indicated that Beijing supports mediation efforts
\nby Pakistan and other parties and will continue to play an active role in
\nrestoring peace and stability in the Gulf region.<\/p>\n
