A slow-moving weather boundary near the coast will keep Eastern North Carolina unsettled through Saturday morning, bringing several rounds of showers and thunderstorms.<\/p>\n
The rain will not fall constantly in every town, but storms may repeatedly move across the same areas. That is where flooding becomes a concern. Roads may quickly become water-covered, especially in low-lying and poor-drainage areas, and a few locations could see flash flooding.<\/p>\n
The highest risk is across southern Eastern North Carolina, generally from south of Highway 264 to the coast. That includes areas south of Highway 70 and portions of the Outer Banks south of Oregon Inlet. A Flood Watch continues there through Saturday morning. Where storms repeatedly track, localized rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches are possible, with isolated higher totals.<\/p>\n
Clouds and rain will keep temperatures somewhat lower than typical for late July, but it will remain humid. Thunderstorms may also briefly reduce visibility for drivers and boaters.<\/p>\n
Conditions should gradually improve later Saturday as the stalled front begins to move offshore. Sunday and Monday look drier and more typical for summer. Then, the focus turns to building heat and humidity by the middle of next week. Heat index values may approach or exceed 105 degrees ahead of another front, along with a renewed chance for scattered storms.<\/p>\n
Bottom line: Stay weather-aware through Saturday morning, avoid flooded roads, and make sure your phone can receive weather alerts overnight.<\/p>\n
