{"id":784981,"date":"2026-07-26T05:34:16","date_gmt":"2026-07-26T05:34:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/784981\/"},"modified":"2026-07-26T05:34:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-26T05:34:16","slug":"packers-ceo-opens-up-about-teams-finances-ahead-of-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/784981\/","title":{"rendered":"Packers CEO opens up about teams finances ahead of 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Packers could use a boost.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time since 1990 (excluding the Covid-affected 2020 season), the Packers operated at a loss \u2014 and CEO Ed Policy believes some changes may be necessary going forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s like other teams have access to this ATM machine that we just don\u2019t have right now,\u201d Policy said Friday, according to the Associated Press.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"40090376\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/GettyImages-2243239408.jpg\" alt=\"A man in a suit and tie at the Packers vs. Steelers game.\" class=\"wp-image-40090376\"  \/>Packers CEO Ed Policy believes the team needs to make some changes to compete in the long-term Icon Sportswire via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to have to be more aggressive with revenue generation going forward,\u201d he added. \u201cWe all know the cost of competing in the NFL is going up, and other teams have access to capital sources that we just don\u2019t have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Green Bay is the only publicly owned franchise in the NFL and reported $753 million in revenue against $754.1 million in expenses. <\/p>\n<p>Revenues increased 4.7 percent from the prior fiscal year, and net income also increased by 54.8 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, at a time when the league\u2019s ownership is increasingly being influenced by private equity investment, the Packers\u2019 unique ownership structure is seemingly making life more challenging.<\/p>\n<p>Green Bay has just under $281.6 million committed to its active 53-man roster, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spotrac.com\/nfl\/cap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">according to Spotrac,<\/a> which is 21st of 32 teams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel very good about the Packers\u2019 financial strength and condition in the medium term and the short term, certainly,\u201d Policy said. \u201cBut we are keeping a very close eye on some of these long-term trends, looking at how they impact us and our financial health in the long term.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.76269531;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39278799\" width=\"450\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/green-bay-packers-vs-new-115563267.jpg\" alt=\"Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love (10) looking to pass.\" class=\"wp-image-39278799\"  \/>Jordan Love and the Packers made another trip to the playoffs last year.  Charles Wenzelberg \/ New York Post<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do have to make sure that we\u2019re always in a position where we can continue to invest wisely in whatever it takes to field a championship-caliber team, whether that\u2019s player costs, football staff or facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The executive added that the team has no plans to sell naming rights to the historic Lambeau Field.<\/p>\n<p>Policy also acknowledged the Packers cannot easily raise money by selling minority stakes in their franchise, as other teams can.<\/p>\n<p>Despite their apparent financial challenges, the Packers have been extremely consistent of late.<\/p>\n<p>They have made the playoffs in four of the past five seasons \u2014 with a 50-34-1 record in that time \u2014 though they\u2019ve won just one playoff game in that span.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Packers could use a boost.
