18-year-old Lilli Tagger has clinched her maiden crown on the WTA Tour after a 7-6(3), 6-2 triumph over Daria Snigur at the Livesport Prague Open, becoming the first player born in 2008 to win a title.<\/p>\n

Tagger<\/a> will move to a career-high ranking of 45th in the world tomorrow after overcoming an opening-set scare to triumph in one hour and 30 minutes<\/a>. She will be the youngest player inside the top 50.<\/p>\n

“It was just an amazing match. I feel super happy right now. I was a bit tired and nervous at the beginning, but right now I’m just super happy, happy that I turned it around in the first set, and kept going with my way in the second set,” Tagger said after recovering from a poor start to the match.<\/p>\n

“For me, it’s not that easy to start when I’m down in the set, but you know, it can happen. It’s part of the game. So I just told myself, it’s just one break in the end. So I kept fighting, and yeah, I turned it around,” she added.<\/p>\n

The aggressive Austrian possesses a glorious single-handed backhand – one of just four\u00a0in the top 100 – and hit nine aces as she denied Snigur<\/a> her first WTA triumph.<\/p>\n

Tagger trailed 2-5 in the first set, but managed to find her feet to retrieve the break before winning the opener on a tiebreak.\u00a0<\/p>\n

From then on, it was far more straightforward for Tagger, cruising to the finishing line to get her hands on the trophy in the Czech capital.<\/p>\n
