\n\tNew Line<\/a> is in early talks for a prequel to Weapons<\/a>, its buzzy hit horror film from writer-director Zach Cregger<\/a>, which opened over the weekend, Deadline has confirmed.<\/p>\n

\n\tPlot details are under wraps, and it\u2019s unclear in what capacity Cregger would participate in the project, as it\u2019s very early days here. We\u2019re told that a writer friend approached him with an idea here that he really sparked to \u2014 one that even New Line\u2019s Richard Brener and Warner Bros chairperson Mike De Luca have yet to hear.<\/p>\n

\n\tSources indicated that presently, Cregger has two other films lined up that will take his focus for the foreseeable future. He\u2019s currently prepping his Resident Evil film for Sony, and it\u2019s expected that he\u2019ll then look to take on an original called Flood.<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing up the 2022 horror film Barbarian that put him on the map, Creggers\u2019 horror mystery Weapons tells the story of 17 third-graders who vanish from their homes at exactly 2:17 a.m., and the confusion and fear resulting from their disappearances in the town of\u00a0Maybrook,\u00a0Pennsylvania. Julia Garner stars as Justine Gandy, the third-grade teacher who loses her class, with Josh Brolin as a father whose child is among the missing, and Alden Ehrenreich as a local cop. Others in the cast include Austin Abrams, Benedict Wong, Amy Madigan, and Cary Christopher.<\/p>\n

\n\tReleased by Warner Bros on August 8, the film has been both a critical and commercial success, topping the box office in its opening weekend with approximately $42.5\u202fmillion domestically. As of today, it\u2019s grossed over $81 million worldwide.<\/p>\n
