Sixty medical units staffed by more than 2,500 volunteers are providing
\nhealthcare services to pilgrims walking the 80-kilometer route between Najaf
\nand Karbala for the Arbaeen pilgrimage, offering first aid, medical checks and
\nemergency assistance throughout the journey.<\/p>\n

The units, operated by Najaf\u2019s Health Directorate and volunteer groups,
\nhave been positioned along major pilgrimage routes to support visitors
\nsuffering from exhaustion, heat-related illnesses, dehydration and minor
\ninjuries.<\/p>\n

Rasl Fadhil Shukor, head of the Volunteer Work Division at Najaf\u2019s
\nHealth Directorate, told Shafaq News that the division received requests from
\nhealth employees wishing to establish medical stations, assessed their needs
\nand completed the required procedures before deployment.<\/p>\n

\u201cVolunteers were instructed to follow health regulations, referral
\nprocedures and coordinate with medical institutions to ensure appropriate care
\nfor pilgrims,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n

The medical network consists of 20 stations operated by Najaf Health
\nDirectorate employees and 40 managed by volunteer teams. The stations have been
\ndistributed across key pilgrimage routes, including the Mishkhab and Manathira
\nareas, the Kufa route and the Thawrat al-Ishreen road toward Khan al-Nus.<\/p>\n

Doctors, pharmacists, dentists, nurses, paramedics and other healthcare
\nvolunteers are working in shifts to ensure medical coverage continues
\nthroughout the pilgrimage period.<\/p>\n

The most common cases treated by medical teams involve exhaustion caused
\nby long-distance walking, heat exhaustion, dehydration, minor cuts, foot
\ninjuries, and blood sugar or blood pressure issues. Stations without doctors
\nprovide first aid and health guidance, while those with authorized medical
\nstaff can dispense medicines in accordance with health regulations.<\/p>\n

Along the same route, the Najaf Volunteer Health Team has mobilized 222
\nvolunteers, including doctors, healthcare workers, pharmacists and medical
\ngraduates, to offer additional support to pilgrims.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have allocated part of the medical unit for women and emergency
\ncases,\u201d team coordinator Murtadha Abbas told Shafaq News.<\/p>\n

Maram Asim, a PhD student volunteering with the team, explained that
\ntaking part in pilgrimage services has allowed her and her colleagues to
\ndirectly assist visitors.<\/p>\n

She added that the team provides pain relief medication and wound
\ntreatment, while ambulances are available to transport patients requiring
\nhospital care.<\/p>\n

The medical response is accompanied by cultural and awareness activities
\nalong the pilgrimage route. The Volunteer Cultural Development and Advancement
\nTeam has distributed awareness materials, guided pilgrims and provided general
\nassistance, particularly for children and elderly visitors.<\/p>\n

Arbaeen marks the 40th day of mourning after the martyrdom of Imam
\nHussein, the third Shia Imam and grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. The annual
\npilgrimage draws millions of Shiite visitors to Karbala, making it one of the
\nlargest religious gatherings in the world.<\/p>\n
