Most of us will require no fur\u00adther proof of that love than this new video cap\u00adtur\u00ading his vis\u00adit to the Cri\u00adte\u00adri\u00adon Clos\u00adet<\/a>, that both hal\u00adlowed and much-YouTubed space jam-packed with releas\u00ades from the most wide\u00adly known home-video brand for cinephiles.<\/p>\n

His taste in movies, too, reflects a streak of high Amer\u00adi\u00adcan\u00adism, which man\u00adi\u00adfests in selec\u00adtions like Spike Lee\u2019s\u00a0Mal\u00adcolm X, David Lynch\u2019s Lost High\u00adway, Carl Franklin\u2019s\u00a0One False Move,\u00a0and Richard Lin\u00adklater\u2019s\u00a0Boy\u00adhood. (As for Robert Alt\u00adman\u2019s satir\u00adi\u00adcal thriller The Play\u00ader, it would be hard to imag\u00adine how he could\u00adn\u2019t appre\u00adci\u00adate its wicked\u00adly inci\u00adsive depic\u00adtion of\u00a0\u201cthe Indus\u00adtry.\u201d) Com\u00ading to the end of his Clos\u00adet time, he also man\u00adages to grab God\u00adfrey Reg\u00adgio\u2019s Qat\u00adsi<\/a> tril\u00ado\u00adgy, which con\u00adsti\u00adtutes \u201cone of the great pieces of pure cin\u00ade\u00adma,\u201d and Car\u00adroll Bal\u00adlard\u2019s The Black Stal\u00adlion, a child\u00adhood favorite that stayed with him. Like all the most suc\u00adcess\u00adful film\u00admak\u00aders, Nolan under\u00adstands that you\u2019ve got to end strong, and in a way that does\u00adn\u2019t require expla\u00adna\u00adtion: hence, per\u00adhaps, his final choice of\u00a0Cit\u00adi\u00adzen Kane.<\/p>\n
