{"id":787713,"date":"2026-07-27T17:51:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T17:51:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/787713\/"},"modified":"2026-07-27T17:51:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T17:51:08","slug":"oklahoma-mental-health-expert-shares-tips-for-finding-joy-on-the-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/787713\/","title":{"rendered":"Oklahoma mental health expert shares tips for finding joy on the job"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            OKLAHOMA CITY &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Finding satisfaction at work may be difficult, but focusing on positive relationships and aligning a career with personal values can help employees rediscover motivation \u2014 even in jobs they don\u2019t love.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, News 9 spoke to Oklahoma leadership coach Erin Engelke, who said many Americans are dissatisfied with their jobs, which can affect both motivation and performance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt affects performance,\u201d Engelke said. \u201cIt affects motivation to get up in the morning and go perform a job that you don\u2019t even love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said one of the biggest challenges employees face is allowing workplace negativity to shape their own outlook.<\/p>\n<p>\n    Avoid the negativity trap<\/p>\n<p>Engelke encouraged people to surround themselves with positive influences rather than getting caught up in constant workplace complaints.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very, very important to make sure that you surround yourself with positive influences, and it\u2019s easy to gravitate towards the negative,\u201d she said. \u201cThe truth of the matter is there\u2019s lots of joy to be found in the everyday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She encouraged workers to identify the small parts of their day that bring them satisfaction and intentionally focus on those moments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverybody\u2019s version of joy is different,\u201d Engelke said. \u201cRecognize what you\u2019re feeling on the inside that gives you joy, and make sure that you\u2019re emphasizing those throughout the course of the day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n    Gratitude and values can change your perspective<\/p>\n<p>Engelke said adopting an attitude of gratitude can help shift a person\u2019s mindset, even in a difficult work environment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just thankful to have a job and to be here,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>For people who feel trapped in an unfulfilling career, Engelke said it\u2019s important to remember they have more control over their future than they may realize.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t have to stay where you are,\u201d she said. \u201cYou might feel like you\u2019re stuck there &#8230; but the truth of the matter is, there\u2019s always a way out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n    Align your career with your values<\/p>\n<p>While changing jobs isn\u2019t always easy, Engelke said understanding personal values can help people find a better long-term fit.<\/p>\n<p>She recommended identifying three to five core values and seeking positions that align with them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA powerful value would be family,\u201d Engelke said. \u201cIf you\u2019re working in a job that is requiring way too much of you &#8230; but family is a top value for you, then you probably need to find a role, a position that allows you more time and energy with your family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Engelke also encouraged workers to celebrate even small victories throughout the day, saying those moments can build motivation and improve overall job satisfaction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"OKLAHOMA CITY &#8211;
