AHN names new West Penn Hospital president<\/p>\n
Allegheny Health Network announced Doug Johnston has been named president of West Penn Hospital.<\/p>\n
Johnston most recently served as the Bloomfield hospital\u2019s chief operating officer. In that role, he helped lead daily initiatives, as well as an institutional master plan process and efforts to improve employee engagement, the health network said in a news release.<\/p>\n
Johnston previously worked as vice president of operations at AHN Allegheny Valley Hospital and as vice president of strategic operations for Allegheny Health Network.<\/p>\n
\u201cWest Penn has an extraordinary legacy of clinical excellence and innovation, and I look forward to working with our talented teams, physician leaders and colleagues across AHN to strengthen that legacy, advocate our strategic priorities and deliver exceptional care to the communities we serve,\u201d Johnston said in a news release.<\/p>\n
Pittsburgh Regional Transit repairing seldom used rail line<\/p>\n
Pittsburgh Regional Transit will close the normally unused rail line between Steel Plaza and Penn Station for four months to allow crews to repair the concrete and tracks and mitigate leaks.<\/p>\n
The Penn Tunnel is used only during detours and special events, the transit authority said in a news release. The work now underway on the tunnel will ensure the tunnel can continue serving as a reliable backup route, officials said.<\/p>\n
The closure is expected to continue through November.<\/p>\n
During the weekends of Aug. 7-10 and 14-17, there will be additional closures between First Avenue and Steel Plaza to allow crews to work on tracks leading to the tunnel. Shuttle buses will connect First Avenue Station and Steel Plaza during those weekends.<\/p>\n
Riders will otherwise see no service impacts during the monthslong Penn Tunnel closure, PRT said.<\/p>\n
Giant Eagle donates gift cards to aid moms with financial woes<\/p>\n
Giant Eagle donated $3,750 in gift cards to NurturePA, an organization that supports mothers facing financial pressures.<\/p>\n
NurturePA on Monday announced the donation, which consisted of 150 $25 gift cards.<\/p>\n
The gift cards will be given to mothers enrolled in NurturePA\u2019s peer support program.<\/p>\n
NurturePA offers free, text message mentorship to mothers with kids from newborn through age 5. The organization serves over 1,300 families, 40% of which report household incomes below $20,000.<\/p>\n
