Still, inconsistency at even strength and an injury history, including a devastating knee injury, that is becoming more prolific than his scoring output have left him without a team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium mui-m06sf4\">He may have to earn his way onto a roster if a report from Islanders beat writer <a class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-inherit MuiLink-root MuiLink-underlineAlways MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__ui__link__medium_strong mui-mlpnpn\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theelmonters.com\/p\/islanders-mailbag-evan-gold-patrik-laine-prospect-pool\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Stefen Rosner<\/a> is any indication. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium mui-m06sf4\">He wrote in an Elmonters Mailbag piece, &#8220;From what I&#8217;ve been told, the Islanders did have conversations with Patrik Laine&#8217;s camp when free agency opened. I don&#8217;t believe the Islanders were willing, or are willing, to offer Laine anything more than a Professional Tryout (PTO).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium mui-m06sf4\">He added, &#8220;And because he missed more than 100 games last season, he&#8217;s eligible to sign a bonus-laden contract, allowing for a lower base salary with performance incentives.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium mui-m06sf4\">The Islanders do not necessarily need a forward at this point, but Laine would provide them further depth and a sharpshooter in the power play.
