Alix Earle<\/a> built her following by making millions of strangers feel as though they were part of her everyday life. That openness has also created a level of scrutiny that, by her own account, recently became impossible to ignore.<\/p>\n

After several quiet days online, the 25-year-old influencer returned to TikTok on Sunday and explained that she had deliberately stepped away when negative comments began affecting how she viewed nearly every part of herself.<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, I just sort of took some time for myself and tried to not be online as much because I was getting into not the best place,\u201d Earle said.<\/p>\n

Criticism has long been an unavoidable part of her career, and she acknowledged that sharing her life publicly invites opinions. The tone surrounding her content, however, had begun to feel different.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always been fine with reading commentary about myself,\u201d she continued. \u201cThat\u2019s what you subject yourself to when you post yourself online. But recently, I don\u2019t know. It\u2019s felt more negative.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earle said the constant analysis extended beyond individual posts and into her appearance, friendships and conversations.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously it\u2019s gonna get to you or make you overthink when you\u2019re constantly reading about what you\u2019re doing, the way you look, who you\u2019re hanging out with, what you\u2019re saying,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Online scrutiny followed Earle away from her phone<\/p>\n

The pressure reached a breaking point while Earle was preparing to go out. She said she began crying while doing her makeup before later experiencing a panic attack during a flight.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was on the plane and I had a panic attack,\u201d Earle said. \u201cI\u2019ve just been struggling a bit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her frustration was complicated by the fact that social media had traditionally served as a place where she could speak openly and document ordinary experiences.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That connection began to feel less safe once every comment or passing remark appeared capable of becoming a larger controversy.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s my happy place to come on here and talk and share things, but it feels like every time I share something now it\u2019s a problem,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are trying to figure out what I\u2019m talking about, or it just turns into something bigger. I\u2019m just trying to share my human experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n

A trip to Miami provided some distance. Earle, who attended the University of Miami, spent time with friends and went out for dinner, but abandoned plans to upload a vlog because she found herself second-guessing everything.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust little things of overthinking everything about myself, I\u2019m like, cancel it,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Posting should not lead to self-hatred<\/p>\n

The confession followed weeks of increasingly personal commentary surrounding Earle, including speculation about cosmetic procedures and criticism of her friendship with Stassie Karanikolaou.<\/p>\n

She had previously laughed off claims that she underwent body-enhancement treatments, but later responded to the broader atmosphere by asking, \u201cWhy is everyone so negative these days?\u201d<\/p>\n

In her return video, Earle said she had attempted to record the explanation several times but initially struggled to speak without crying.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve actually recorded a video like this a few times, but the other times I was recording it I was crying,\u201d she said. \u201cI was like, let me just collect myself a little more.\u201d<\/p>\n
