{"id":788538,"date":"2026-07-28T03:28:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T03:28:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/788538\/"},"modified":"2026-07-28T03:28:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T03:28:09","slug":"hurricane-genevieve-to-bring-massive-swells-perilous-surf-to-socal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/788538\/","title":{"rendered":"Hurricane Genevieve to bring massive swells, perilous surf to SoCal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Hurricane Genevieve, which is whipping up the Pacific Ocean about 500 miles off the southern tip of Baja California, will send big waves rolling toward Southern California beaches this week, creating hazardous swimming conditions, the National Weather Service says.<\/p>\n<p>Now a <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/text\/refresh\/MIATCPEP2+shtml\/271447.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Category 4 hurricane<\/a> and moving northwest with sustained winds of about 155 mph, Genevieve is expected to generate up to 11-foot swells by Wednesday afternoon along San Diego County beaches that face south and southwest.<\/p>\n<p>The hurricane will bring heavy surf and strong rip currents along L.A. County beaches, the National Weather Service says. <\/p>\n<p>In most coastal areas in San Diego and Orange counties, the <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/sgx\/#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">forecast<\/a> calls for surf of 3 to 6 feet, with larger sets periodically reaching 7 feet.<\/p>\n<p>Surfers are gearing up for what the website Surfline <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DbTWvHRogQq\/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">calls<\/a> \u201cone of the strongest hurricane swells of the past decade\u201d in Southern California. <\/p>\n<p>While the waves will attract experienced surfers, the National Weather Service says the hurricane is bringing life-threatening surf and rip currents that make swimming hazardous.
