(WBAY) &#8211; Three Fox Valley communities have declared local states of emergency following a confirmed tornado and severe storms that struck the area Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Officials said there are no known deaths at this time and few have been treated for injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A confirmed tornado touched down west of Appleton with reported winds of 124 miles per hour, prompting tornado warnings around the western side of Lake Winnebago from the Appleton to Fond du Lac areas. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Reports of broken trees, downed branches, and downed power lines are coming in throughout Appleton, Menasha, and Neenah.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"Menasha storm damage: Shelters open, residents urged to stay off roads\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/J7JAI74TFFA6JC245IRQYQU4PE.JPG\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" \/>Menasha storm damage: Shelters open, residents urged to stay off roads(Nate Welch)States of emergency declared<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The City of Neenah declared a local state of emergency effective 5:30 p.m. Monday. The declaration was issued by Council President Dan Steiner, serving as acting mayor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThis declaration allows the City to take the necessary actions to protect public health and safety, coordinate response efforts, authorize emergency resources, and document damages and costs for potential state and federal assistance,\u201d Steiner said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The declaration authorizes the acting mayor and the city\u2019s Director of Emergency Government to take actions necessary to respond to the emergency, including emergency procurement of goods, equipment, and services, authorization of overtime and personnel deployment, and coordination of mutual aid. The city is also authorized to request, provide, and coordinate mutual aid with the City of Menasha, the Village of Fox Crossing, and other affected jurisdictions. The declaration will remain in effect until further notice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Mayor Hammond issued a proclamation declaring a local state of disaster for the City of Menasha, effective July 27, 2026. The city was struck by severe weather, including a tornado, at approximately 12:20 p.m. The Town of Grand Chute also declared a local state of disaster, effective July 27, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Curfew in effect<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Village of Fox Crossing and the City of Menasha have a citywide curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., effective Monday and in place until further notice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The curfew applies to any person on foot, bicycle, or any type of vehicle on any public street, avenue, highway, road, alley, park, school grounds, swimming beach, cemetery, playground, public building, or any other public place in the City of Menasha. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The curfew does not apply to any person whose employment makes it necessary to be on streets, alleys, or public places during those hours.<\/p>\n<p>Boil-water order<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbay.com\/2026\/07\/28\/boil-water-advisory-issued-fox-crossing-east-side-water-system-after-storm-causes-pressure-loss\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wbay.com\/2026\/07\/28\/boil-water-advisory-issued-fox-crossing-east-side-water-system-after-storm-causes-pressure-loss\/\">A boil-water order has been issued<\/a> for the Village of Fox Crossing east of the Fox River and any City of Menasha residents served by the Village of Fox Crossing water utility. Residents sheltering are instructed to continue to conserve water.<\/p>\n<p>Area closures<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The eastside of the Village of Fox Crossing and the City of Menasha are closed. Vehicle traffic is not being allowed into Menasha at this time. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Residents are strongly encouraged to continue to shelter in place and avoid traveling into the City of Menasha unless absolutely necessary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Menasha Police Department, Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue, Department of Public Works, utility crews, and public safety partners are actively responding to significant storm damage throughout the city. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Officials said traffic congestion, downed trees, power lines, debris, and blocked roadways are preventing emergency responders and utility crews from reaching affected areas.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency shelters<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The following shelters are open for residents. Pets are not allowed; service animals only.<\/p>\n<p>Christ the Rock Community Church \u2014 W6254 US Highway 10\/114, Menasha, WI 54952 (Open for overnight sheltering)The Elks Lodge \u2014 328 Nicolet Blvd., Menasha, WI 54952 (Open until 10 p.m.)Calvary Bible Church \u2014 Oakridge Rd., Neenah, WI 54957 (Open until 9 p.m.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Residents who cannot get to a shelter on their own can take bus transportation from the former Shopko parking lot at 1150 Midway Road (corner of Midway and Appleton) to Christ the Rock Community Church. Bus transportation ends at 9 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency response<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Winnebago County Emergency Operations Center has been activated through Winnebago County Emergency Management. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Residents should stay away from downed power lines, obey all barricades and road closures, and call 911 only for emergencies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Volunteer Fox Cities will be coordinating volunteer efforts.
