This isn’t the first time the 28-year-old has imagined himself in Washington despite still being under contract with the 49ers.<\/p>\n
He has also claimed he purchased an estate in Loudoun County, Virginia, which is where the Commanders have their headquarters.<\/p>\n
Back in June, however, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler posited that Aiyuk was “lighting money on fire” through his noteworthy social media usage.<\/p>\n
Barrows and Jhabvala painted a similar picture in Monday’s report.<\/p>\n
“But the more Aiyuk has posted on social media, the more he has seemed to jeopardize his hopes of returning to an active NFL roster \u2014 including Washington’s,” they wrote.<\/p>\n
In the case of the Commanders, Aiyuk took a shot at franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels, which didn’t appear to go unnoticed by his former college teammate:<\/p>\n
Washington selected Clemson’s Antonio Williams in the third round of the draft but would benefit by signing a proven veteran as the No. 2 option behind Terry McLaurin. If the team could be assured of getting the 2023 or 2024 version of Aiyuk, then he would make a huge difference on the passing game.<\/p>\n
Aiyuk hasn’t appeared in a game since tearing his ACL and MCL, though, and the way in which his relationship with the 49ers has deteriorated will raise some concerns for his next team.<\/p>\n
