(WKYT) &#8211; A woman living on North Yarnallton Pike near the Fayette-Scott County line says a bear appeared on her back patio early Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Janel DeBoer said her outdoor cameras detected the animal near her back patio and back gate around 12:30 a.m. and again just before 2 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt looks like a bear, it\u2019s walking like a bear, I don\u2019t think it\u2019s a dog,\u201d DeBoer said.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We\u2019ve lived here 20-something years\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">DeBoer said she has seen rabbits, skunks and foxes near her home over the years, but never a bear.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI just kept replaying it and replaying it. We\u2019ve lived here 20-something years and I\u2019ve never seen a bear,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">She said a neighbor\u2019s trash was spread across their driveway and some grass was flattened, but there was otherwise little sign the animal had been there.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe didn\u2019t have any food out there or anything like that, but I\u2019ve got tomatoes and beans growing, but it didn\u2019t go into that \u2014 I don\u2019t really know what it was looking for,\u201d DeBoer said.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"link | text-reset d-block h-100 w-100\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wkyt.com\/page\/wkyt-apps-for-ios-and-android-devices\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_self\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"WKYT Streaming Apps\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1785234555_139_MEPHTWNVMREWLEQQWWFJM27ZMA.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a>Concern for nearby animals<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">DeBoer said she is relieved there was no property damage, but noted that her neighbors have horses and dogs. She is also in the process of adopting rescue dogs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThat was a real concern this morning too that we\u2019re gonna have to be extremely careful. We cannot just let them outside to do their business without us with them,\u201d she said. \u201cI think it\u2019s small \u2014 with that, you wonder if mom\u2019s nearby or dad or both or other babies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">DeBoer said she is contacting her neighbors about the sighting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI will always keep the gate locked from now on,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WKYT.
