Eric Roberts pulled back the curtain on his and daughter Emma Roberts\u2019 strained relationship years before missing the actress\u2019 wedding to Cody John<\/a>.<\/p>\n

When asked what was the \u201ctoughest time\u201d of his life during an October 2024 podcast episode, the actor replied, \u201cProbably the loss of a relationship<\/a> with my daughter.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 70-year-old, however, denied to \u201cInside of You\u201d listeners<\/a> that there was \u201cpain\u201d surrounding their connection.<\/p>\n

The actor shared the \u201csadness\u201d in an October 2024 podcast episode. Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum\/Youtube<\/p>\n

He described it, instead, as \u201ca sadness for the most likely misunderstandings we\u2019ll all have forever because we\u2019re human.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eric noted at the time that becoming a grandpa brought this feeling to light because his eldest grandchild, who \u201clooks like Emma,\u201d has taken \u201ca liking\u201d to him \u2014 and \u201creminded\u201d him of \u201cwhat [he] didn\u2019t have.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, earlier this year, the Golden Globe nominee clarified that he and Emma are not estranged<\/a> <\/a>on \u201cReally Famous With Kara Myer Robinson.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

He explained in April that his relationship with the \u201cUnfabulous\u201d alum, 35, is \u201conly complicated through outside eyes \u2026 because they don\u2019t get any of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eric did confess during the interview to being a \u201cwash rag\u201d and \u201ccar wreck\u201d of a dad when Emma was growing up.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was not to be depended on emotionally whatsoever,\u201d the Oscar nominee admitted, taking \u201cfull responsibility\u201d for this.<\/p>\n

However, Eric said he\u2019ll \u201calways have\u201d a sweet moment he and Emma shared when she was a newborn and he soothed her by singing \u201cHappy Birthday.\u201d<\/p>\n

He recalled, \u201cShe stopped screaming and tried to find my face with her little blind eyes. It was the most complete moment maybe I have ever had in my life. That something I did was recognized by a brand-new creature who had my DNA.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd there she was, and she already knew me,\u201d Eric continued. \u201cShe tried to find me. It was magic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eric was noticeably absent from Emma\u2019s star-studded Saturday wedding<\/a> to John, while his sister Julia Roberts was present<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Monday, Eric told Page Six, \u201cIt is perfectly wonderful for [Emma] to celebrate however she wants,\u00a0with whomever she wants.\u201d Dsanchez\/CPR \/ BACKGRID<\/p>\n

The \u201cRunaway Train\u201d star, who was photographed in Los Angeles over the weekend, exclusively told us in a statement<\/a> Monday that he \u201clove[s his] daughter, always have and always will.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cIt is perfectly wonderful for her to celebrate however she wants,\u00a0with whomever she wants.\u201d<\/p>\n
