The ability to add a digital version of your driver\u2019s license to your iPhone<\/a> looks like it will be rolling out to a 15th US state before too long.<\/p>\n Apple currently lists 14 states where the capability is supported, alongside the territory of Puerto Rico, and backend assets now indicate another one will soon be added \u2026 <\/p>\n Many of us have long wished there was no need to carry physical identity documents like driver\u2019s licenses and passports, and we could instead simply present digital ID on an iPhone or Apple Watch. <\/p>\n That future is likely still a long way off, but Apple made a start back in 2021 when the company announced plans to allow iPhone users to add a driver\u2019s license or state ID to the Wallet<\/a> app. So far, 14 states have taken advantage of this capability:<\/p>\n Arizona<\/p>\n Arkansas<\/p>\n California<\/p>\n Colorado<\/p>\n Georgia<\/p>\n Hawaii<\/p>\n Illinois<\/p>\n Iowa<\/p>\n Maryland<\/p>\n Montana<\/p>\n New Mexico<\/p>\n North Dakota<\/p>\n Ohio<\/p>\n West Virginia<\/p>\n Backend assets spotted by MacRumors<\/a> suggest that Oklahoma will soon be joining this list.<\/p>\n We recently outlined the process for adding a driver\u2019s license or state ID card<\/a> to the Wallet app on your iPhone. As we noted then, you should be aware that digital ID doesn\u2019t act as a complete replacement for physical documents, so unfortunately we would have to recommend continuing to carry the crushed oil version.<\/p>\n Even so, the digital version can help protect your privacy<\/a> at places like eligible TSA checkpoints and when required to prove your age to a business. The ID confirms that you meet the age requirement, but doesn\u2019t disclose any personal information like date of birth.<\/p>\n
