{"id":792336,"date":"2026-07-30T00:37:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-30T00:37:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/792336\/"},"modified":"2026-07-30T00:37:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T00:37:10","slug":"2-meteor-showers-expected-to-peak-but-moonlight-could-spoil-the-view","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/792336\/","title":{"rendered":"2 meteor showers expected to peak, but moonlight could spoil the view"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"sub-text\">A meteor lit up the sky over Palo Alto, California, while a driver was on the road on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Two meteor showers will peak overnight from Thursday into Friday, but most skywatchers shouldn&#8217;t expect a dazzling celestial display.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\/august-skywatching-guide-planetary-parade-eclipses-perseids\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">AUGUST SKYWATCHING GUIDE: FROM A PLANETARY PARADE AND ECLIPSES TO A METEOR SHOWER<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_3\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/astronomy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Astronomers <\/a>say both the Southern Delta Aquariids and the Alpha Capricornids will reach peak activity just one night after the full July <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_4\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\/buck-moon-2026-when-where-july\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Buck Moon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">This will prevent most skywatchers from seeing this event since the <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_5\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/moon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">moon<\/a> will still be 98% full.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"668\" height=\"376\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1785371829_662_gettyimages-483757348.jpg\" alt=\"Members of the York Astronomical Society\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">Members of an astronomical society prepare to view a meteor shower. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"sub-text\"> (Photo credit should read OLI SCARFF\/AFP via Getty Images \/ Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">According to the <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_6\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amsmeteors.org\/meteor-showers\/meteor-shower-calendar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">American Meteor Society<\/a>, the Southern Delta Aquariids are active from July 23 through Aug. 23 and are best seen from the southern tropics.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_7\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/how-often-meteorites-crash-earth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">HOW OFTEN DO METEORITES CRASH IN THE US?<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The shower typically produces a steady number of meteors, but they are usually faint and rarely produce persistent trains or <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\/why-fireballs-lighting-up-skies-across-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">fireballs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The Alpha Capricornids, which are active from July 12 through Aug. 12, are a much weaker meteor shower and rarely produce more than five meteors per hour at their peak.
