The 76ers fell behind 3-1 to the Celtics in the first round of the NBA playoffs but rallied to win the series in seven games, thanks in large part to Joel Embiid returning from injury and averaging 28.6 points in 37.3 minutes per game over Philadelphia’s final three wins.

The 76ers were then swept by the eventual champion New York Knicks in the second round, including a 30-point loss in Game 4.

Philadelphia added Brown to a lineup that already included All-NBA Third Team guard Tyrese Maxey (28.3 points and 6.6 assists per game last season), 2023 league MVP Embiid and ascending rookie guard VJ Edgecombe. The 20-year-old Baylor product finished third in the 2025-26 NBA Rookie of the Year voting after averaging 16 points in his debut season.

Despite that star power, the team went 45-37 and had to survive the Play-In Tournament to secure the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Brown’s arrival transformed the 76ers into legitimate championship contenders.
