He is the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/07\/2026-nba-draft-pick-signings.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">final first-round<\/a> pick to sign his rookie contract.<\/p>\n<p>Lopez is expected to make <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/07\/rookie-scale-salaries-for-2026-nba-first-round-picks.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">$3,746,760<\/a> as a rookie in 2026\/27 and $18,368,804 over his first four seasons. As with all rookie scale contracts, the final two years are team options.<\/p>\n<p>He was held out of Summer League action with a mild left hamstring strain he suffered during the pre-draft process.<\/p>\n<p>Lopez spent the past two seasons with the New Zealand Breakers in the Australian NBL\u2019s Next Stars program. He averaged 10.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 blocks in 24.4 minutes in 58 games (53 starts) during that time. He scored 358 points last season, the highest total ever for a draft-eligible player in Next Stars history.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A member of the Mexican national team, Lopez hails from Hermosillo, Mexico, making him the first Mexican-born player ever selected in the first round of the NBA draft.<\/p>\n<p>A crowded roster has delayed the Grizzlies in getting their draft picks under contract. No. 3 choice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/boozeca02.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-29_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Cameron Boozer<\/a> didn\u2019t <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/07\/grizzlies-sign-cameron-boozer-to-rookie-contract.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">sign<\/a> until July 13, and No. 32 selection <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/saundri01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-04_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Richie Saunders<\/a>\u00a0remains unsigned.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Grizzlies have signed first-round pick Karim Lopez, the team announced (via Twitter).
