It’s sweating it out in the sauna, braving the cold plunge or squeezing in a little post-workout pampering.

And New Yorkers have taken notice. Across the city, high-end gyms have evolved into full-service performance destinations where recovery has moved from the sidelines to center stage.

Luxury fitness clubs are expanding into advanced wellness and longevity spaces with high-end recovery services. Vosk Center

“For years, fitness was all about pushing harder, going faster, more reps, more miles, more intensity. Today, people have realized that performance isn’t just built in the workout; it’s built in what happens afterward,” Patrick Walsh, CEO of TMPL Fitness, told The Post.

“Recovery has become just as important as training because people aren’t simply chasing a certain look anymore. They want more energy, better sleep, less stress and the ability to perform at a high level every day.”

The shift is showing up in the data. Sports recovery was the fastest-growing workout category in 2025, according to ClassPass, with demand for wellness appointments like stretching, cupping, sauna, meditation and massage also surging.

Here’s a look at five high-end fitness centers where health-conscious New Yorkers are breaking a sweat and bouncing back under one roof — plus an affordable national brand bringing recovery to the masses.

LifeTime Sky

At this Manhattan club on 42nd Street and 11th Avenue, a workout comes with a lot more than weights and cardio equipment. The high-end facility features a regulation-size NBA basketball court, two indoor pickleball courts and a rooftop pool.

But its recovery offerings are the real standout. At the indoor water club, members can swim laps, relax in a steam room, sauna or hot tub, then finish with a cold plunge.

The gym also has a Dynamic Stretch Program, which pairs members with specialists who assess their flexibility and use targeted techniques to improve mobility and reduce pain.

Life Time Sky features a rooftop pool and indoor water club where members can relax. Life Time Sky

The gym’s Dynamic Stretch Program pairs members with specialists that can support their flexibility and mobility. Life Time Sky

Sessions might include stretching, range-of-motion work, breathing exercises and recovery tools like Hyperice Hypervolt massage guns, CryoLounge chairs for dry hot and cold therapy, Hydro Massage chairs and Normatec compression boots, which apply rhythmic pressure to the legs support circulation and reduce soreness.

“Stretching and mobility are no longer viewed as optional add-ons; they’re seen as essential to long-term performance and feeling good,” said Makoto Matsuo, director of recovery and performance.

Membership at Life Time Sky starts at $348 per month.

TMPL Baths

If you’re lucky, you might spot Lenny Kravitz working on his six-pack at this luxury gym on Madison Avenue in Midtown.

The club features plenty of cardio and weight training equipment, plus a hot yoga room, reformer Pilates studio and boxing ring. But the bathhouse is a real jaw-dropper.

Inside, the space plays with extremes: Icy cold plunge tubs sit alongside infrared and Himalayan salt saunas, inviting members to experience contrast therapy, which alternates hot and cold treatments to promote circulation and recovery.

There’s also a eucalyptus-infused steam room, a pool-sized hot tub and a lounge area for unwinding after a session.

“Members increasingly expect one destination where they can exercise, recover, relax and reconnect,” Walsh said. “That combination creates a more complete wellness experience and builds stronger daily habits.”

Courtesy of TMPL

Modern bathhouses like TMPL are popping up across the city, offering a place to unwind and socialize. Instagram/tmplbaths

Also on-site are multiple kinds of saunas and steam rooms for members to enjoy. Instagram/tmplbaths

The biggest perk might be what you don’t find here: crowds. Several members of The Post’s wellness team have visited and noted how exclusive the center feels. No waiting for equipment, no elbowing your way into the hot tub — just a rare sense of privacy in a city gym.

Unlimited access to TMPL Baths costs $420 per month.

E by Equinox Madison Avenue

This Upper East Side club is billed as the “most personalized Equinox experience” available.

Along with a premium fitness center, members have access to 12 categories of workout classes, including cycling, boxing, martial arts and Pilates.

Beyond the gym floor, members have access to physical therapy, nutrition counseling and a full-service spa offering massage therapy, cupping and skincare treatments, including a “longevity facial.”

Fitness clubs like E by Equinox offer on-site spa services, including massage and cupping therapy. Equinox

The club also features high-tech recovery options, including compression therapy and full-body LightStim red light therapy to promote skin health, support muscle recovery and help reduce inflammation.

Membership at E by Equinox Madison Avenue costs $26,000 a year.

Vosk Center

Billed as New York’s “first concierge, member’s only precision performance center,” this 57th Street club aims to integrate fitness and recovery in the name of longevity.

“The hurdle I was running into with my patients and private clients was that there wasn’t really a balance between the two, and because of that, they were often running into a lack of progress in their training or in their healing,” said Dr. Vitaly Dvoskin, a physical therapist and founder of the Vosk Center. “That’s what encouraged me to bring together all of these different modalities under one roof.”

After an extensive intake that includes blood work and fitness testing, each member receives a personalized protocol developed by a team of in-house trainers, physical therapists and clinicians, who track their progress and adjust their programs in real time.

At Vosk Center, members can work with in-house physical therapists to optimize their fitness and recovery protocols. The fee includes eight personal training sessions a month and unlimited access to the club’s gym and recovery services; additional treatments cost extra.

Continuum

Located in Manhattan’s West Village, Continuum’s founders describe the club as an “AI-powered luxury social wellness experience.”

After an extensive health assessment, each member receives a personalized wellness plan, with access to the tools and specialists needed to carry it out without ever leaving the building.

Amenities include a fully equipped gym with personal trainers, as well as a red light therapy bed, a sensory deprivation float tank, saunas, cold plunges, unlimited massages and IV infusions. The club also offers a clinical-grade hyperbaric chamber, which uses pressurized oxygen to support tissue recovery.

But Continuum is designed to be more than a place to work out. Members can grab a meal or drink, work from meeting rooms and lounge spaces, or tap the club’s concierge service for everything from impossible dinner reservations to booking personal trainers while traveling abroad.

At elite clubs like Continuum, members are given personal wellness plans laying out targeted daily directions for physical training and recovery. James Farrell for Continuum

New York Post

“The idea is to truly bring people together and give them a place to set up shop and do work, connect, relax,” founder and CEO Jeff Halevy previously told The Post, noting that studies show social connection is the “greatest lever” for healthspan and lifespan, even beyond diet and exercise.

That level of service doesn’t come cheap. With memberships topping out at $100,000 a year, Continuum is New York’s most expensive fitness club, though it also offers $40,000 and $25,000 tiers for those willing to forgo some of the perks.

Of course, money alone won’t get you in. Membership is capped at 250, and entry is by invitation only.

Recovery24

Don’t have six figures to spend on a gym membership? The recovery trend has reached budget-friendly gyms, too.

Last year, 24 Hour Fitness launched Recovery24, a spa-inspired wellness zone available at select clubs nationwide.

Even more affordable gyms are jumping on the recovery train, with 24 Hour Fitness launching its own wellness zone last year. Courtesy of Recovery

The space features massage chairs, zero-gravity recliners, Hyperice Hypervolt percussion massage guns, Normatec compression boots and foam rollers for self-myofascial release, a technique that uses pressure to target tight muscles and improve mobility.

Recovery24 is included with premium KeepFit+ memberships or can be added to a standard membership for about $9.99 a month.

But New Yorkers will have to leave the city to try it out. The closest locations are in Valley Stream on Long Island and Westchester County.

“Recovery shouldn’t be reserved for professional athletes or luxury wellness facilities,” said Derek Gallup, vice president of Fitness at 24 Hour Fitness. “Everyone, regardless of fitness level, can benefit from taking care of their body physically and mentally.”

Your gym’s juice bar is so yesterday.
