{"id":79345,"date":"2025-08-13T10:06:07","date_gmt":"2025-08-13T10:06:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/79345\/"},"modified":"2025-08-13T10:06:07","modified_gmt":"2025-08-13T10:06:07","slug":"great-white-shark-spotted-lurking-near-maines-coastline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/79345\/","title":{"rendered":"Great white shark spotted lurking near Maine&#8217;s coastline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Police in Scarborough, Maine, are warning people about a great white shark that was spotted multiple times this week <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/24\/science\/shark-fears-as-giant-great-white-lurks-dangerously-close-to-east-coast-beaches-trackers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lurking near the coastline<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s Marine Resource Officer first received reports of shark sightings near Richmond Island and Scarborough Beach on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>David Lancaster shot this drone video of the shark swimming near Richmond Island about 10 a.m. Monday. <\/p>\n<p>The drone was able to get very close to the surface of the water, where the shark could be seen clearly, with its trademark dorsal fin breaking the plane of the ocean.<\/p>\n<p>Police estimate the great white to be 10-12 feet long.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities said it was subsequently spotted Tuesday morning near the vicinity of Higgins Beach and Scarborough Beach.<\/p>\n<p>Police said they will provide additional updates and are encouraging people to be aware of the shark\u2019s presence.<\/p>\n<p>Police believe the shark is roughly 10-12 feet long.
