{"id":795003,"date":"2026-07-31T07:48:13","date_gmt":"2026-07-31T07:48:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/795003\/"},"modified":"2026-07-31T07:48:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T07:48:13","slug":"michael-jackson-boosts-sony-music-sales-amid-quiet-quarter-for-studio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/795003\/","title":{"rendered":"Michael Jackson Boosts Sony Music Sales Amid Quiet Quarter For Studio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe box office success of <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/michael\/\" id=\"auto-tag_michael\" data-tag=\"michael\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Michael<\/a> appears to have put some thriller into Sony\u2019s earnings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSony Music Entertainment\u2019s sales bounced 22% to 557.9 billion yen ($3.5B) in the three months to the end of June, according to the company\u2019s Q1 earnings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSony Music revealed that Jackson\u2019s \u201cThriller\u201d and \u201cBad\u201d were among its top 10 best-selling recorded music projects during the quarter, coinciding with the release of Lionsgate biopic Michael.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tOver at Sony Pictures Entertainment, the earnings reflected a quiet quarter of theatrical releases in North America, with the unit only debuting Nate Bargatze comedy The Breadwinner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSony Pictures\u2019 revenue fell 13% to $1.98B year-on-year, though the division\u2019s operating income grew 21% to $156M over the three months to the end of June.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tTheatrical sales stood at $30 million in Sony\u2019s Q1, which was down around $100M on the same period in 2025, when the studio released 28 Years Later and Karate Kid: Legends.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSony Pictures\u2019 television sales also declined from $841M in 2025 to $571M this year, despite the release of the final season of The Boys on Amazon.
