The rumors were true: Sadie Sink is the new Jean Grey.<\/p>\n
The \u201cStranger Things\u201d actress plays the telepathic and telekinetic Marvel superhero in \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day,\u201d <\/a>which was released in theaters Friday. <\/p>\n Sadie Sink\u2019s secret character in \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day\u201d was revealed. Xavier Collin\/Image Press Agency \/ SplashNews.com<\/p>\n Sink\u2019s Jean Grey is the first \u201cX-Men\u201d character to be properly introduced into the main Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.<\/p>\n In the 20th Century Fox \u201cX-Men\u201d movies, which are set in a different universe than the MCU films, Famke Janssen played the adult version of Jean, while Sophie Turner <\/a>played the younger version of the character in the prequels.<\/p>\n Janssen starred in \u201cX-Men\u201d (2000), \u201cX2: X-Men United\u201d (2003) and \u201cX-Men: The Last Stand\u201d (2006). However, Sink had to stay tight-lipped about her role throughout the press tour.<\/p>\n When she appeared on \u201cThe Tonight Show\u201d<\/a> on Wednesday, host Jimmy Fallon outright asked Sink if plays Jean. <\/p>\n Sink, who kept her composure, replied, \u201cWouldn\u2019t\u00a0you like to know.\u201d<\/p>\n Elsewhere in the interview, Sink admitted it\u2019s been \u201cfreeing\u201d to not be allowed to talk about her character. <\/p>\n \u201cI get a little nervous for interviews sometimes,\u201d she explained. \u201cAnd so, if I don\u2019t have to talk about anything, it relaxes me.\u00a0I\u2019m like, \u2018I don\u2019t have anything to\u00a0say.’\u201d<\/p>\n Sink (seen here) recently told Jimmy Fallon it\u2019s been \u201cfreeing\u201d to not be allowed to talk about playing Jean. I am?\u2019\u201d she said on the late-night show in January.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd sure enough, two days later, they asked me to do it. So yeah, those theories, there\u2019s sometimes some truth to it.\u201d<\/p>\n Days before \u201cSpider-Man 4\u201d came out, MCU boss Kevin Feige told Entertainment Weekly<\/a> how the team decided Sink was the perfect person to play Jean.<\/p>\n \u201cWe had a Peter story that we wanted to tell, and knew that there were a number of characters that could fit into that,\u201d he shared. \u201cAnd it was Sadie\u2019s name who came up that solidified the idea of the character that she\u2019s playing.\u201d<\/p>\n Sink (pictured above) said she was cast in the film two days after hearing about the fan theories.
