AP Photo\/Yuki Iwamura<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDont tell chum bout the bet,\u201d Laster said in the message, allegedly instructing a person to keep Rozier out of the betting loop.<\/p>\n<p>The defense asked a federal judge to throw out two of the four charges that were brought against him by the U.S. Department of Justice, claiming the text proves he had no knowledge of the transgressions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis should end the case,\u201d Rozier, who is represented by David Markus and Margot Moss, said. \u201cOne does not hide a bet from the person who supposedly sold it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/28\/sports\/terry-rozier-allegedly-accepted-100000-bribe-to-exit-nba-game\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Federal prosecutors argue that Rozier agreed to accept a $100,000 payment<\/a> to take himself out early from the 2023 game so that a group of gamblers could win bets. <\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.60250391;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"40146127\" width=\"945\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/2023-telling-friend-proprietary-information-126514369.jpg\" alt=\"Terry Rozier (pictured, grey suit) arriving at Brooklyn federal court.\" class=\"wp-image-40146127\"  \/>Terry Rozier debuted unseen text messages that he believes proves his innocence. He never bet on anything, never agreed to underperform, never did underperform, and did not know that anyone was wagering on his statistics in the Charlotte Hornets\u2019 March 23, 2023, game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rozier faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted, and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/04\/sports\/terry-rozier-must-forfeit-most-of-26m-salary-as-gambling-probe-continues\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">he has been released<\/a> from his contract with the Miami Heat. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Terry Rozier\u2019s court case took a wild turn on Friday.
